Overview

Our Stine Research Center in Newark, DE has an exciting opportunity for a Craftsperson Mechanic to join our company. Accountable for providing (24/7) mechanical maintenance support for all phases of mechanical equipment/systems including installation, troubleshooting and repair, preventative and predictive maintenance, and documentation of this work on the equipment/systems in a way that it can be used to maximize equipment reliability

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, balancing, vibration analysis, laser alignment and repairs on all types of rotating equipment, such as pumps, compressors, blowers, seals, bearing, mechanical packing and gears/reducers in order to maintain the reliability of equipment.
- Cutting, threading, welding, bending and joining carbon and galvanized steel piping and stainless steel and copper tubing and components. Ability to fabricate and install various piping systems, steel, stainless, copper (sweated/compression), composite piping and glue joints, proper selection of gasket materials and cutting gaskets when required.
- Installation, troubleshooting, testing of various research equipment such as Growth and Dew Chambers, Autoclaves and Greenhouse equipment.
- Reads and properly interprets repair manuals, blueprints, mechanical seal drawings, including pipe fabrications in order to perform necessary repairs to equipment.
- Maintains availability for off-hours response as needed.
- Repairs, troubleshoots, and installs pneumatic and hydraulic equipment in order to identify problems and make needed repairs.
- Documents work and repair history to retain information on equipment for future use.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment per schedule and specifications in order to maintain the reliability of equipment.
- Uses proper rigging techniques to lift equipment in order to perform daily maintenance activities.
- Operates manlifts, trucks, and forklifts in order to perform daily maintenance activities.
- Assists with quality improvement projects in order to continually improve process.
- Actively collaborate and support the maintenance Execution Control System (ECS).
- Actively participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
Other Requirements:
- Drives and ensures 100% compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), quality standards, and performance.
- Ensures 100% compliance with training requirements (individually and team, if applicable).
- Participates in Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Job Safety Assessments (JSA), and permitting as assigned to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and drive site performance.
- Participates in and supports Root Cause Analysis (RCA) at the site in response to issues found.
- Assists with quality improvement projects in order to continually improve process.
- Operates and maintains their area with a high level of ownership, accountability and ethics.

Required Education

- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Multi Craft/NCCER certification preferred.

Qualifications

- 5 years' experience in an industrial mechanical role.
- Ability to interact and communicate with diverse groups of people such as line supervision, external suppliers, research leads, engineers and operations and maintenance staff.
- Demonstrates ability to work as a self-managed individual, be responsive to emergency situations and make decisions.
- Knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Knowledge to use hand tools, portable power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Willing and able to work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to adjust quickly to changing conditions and anticipate needs.
- Problem solving capabilities and ability to make independent decisions.
