Description:
This engineering position at the Naval Nuclear
Laboratory (NNL) will focus on the design, integration,
testing, deployment, and support of electrical
instrumentation and control systems for the United
States Navy: GERALD R. FORD class of aircraft carriers.
This position involves the direct interaction with the
Navy, shipyards, vendors, and customers. This is an
excellent opportunity to work with mission-critical
shipboard electrical systems and to make a significant
impact to the technology that protects our country. NNL
develops and supports the world's safest and most
advanced reactor plants. This position deals with
shipboard systems that perform essential reactor
protection and control functions, demanding the highest
degree of quality and reliability. The position supports
the construction of new aircraft carriers as well as the
operating fleet. The successful candidate's duties will
include maintaining and implementing improvements to
hardware and software system designs for various
shipboard control systems, development and maintenance
of procedures for equipment operation, troubleshooting
instrumentation and control system issues, developing
and performing equipment tests, performing detailed
technical evaluations, and authoring technical reports.
Duties will also include regular verbal and written
communications with co-workers, management, and
customers. The position will leverage the candidate's
prior Navy nuclear operations experience to help drive
improvements in system design and operations, and to
provide end user perspective in making design decisions.
The successful candidate will also be relied upon to
help foster the growth of plant operations knowledge
within the group.
Requirements:
* Operational experience with Navy Nuclear Propulsion
* A strong understanding of integrated nuclear power
plant operations
* The ability to read and understand electrical
schematics
* Coursework or experience with computer programming
Senior:
* BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a
science related field from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of six years of relevant
experience; or
* MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a
science related field from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of four years of relevant
experience; or
* Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I
qualified or EDO and two years as EOOW in the
Nuclear Operations Program; or
* Three years as SRE plus Watch Instructor and
Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel
and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only), or SRE
qualified and six years of experience
Principal:
* BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a
science related field from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of nine years of relevant
experience; or
* MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a
science related field from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of seven years of relevant
experience; or
* Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II
qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW
in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
* Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years
as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine years of
experience
