Director, Corporate Communications, Americas
Equinix is seeking a driven individual to join our Corporate Communications team as the Director of Americas Communications. This role will lead a team and set and drive the strategic direction for the communications function in the Americas region (Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and the U.S.), while partnering closely with the regional marketing team, Americas leadership, and the Global Public Relations and Global Social Media teams.
The role will have a priority emphasis on public relations and social media and will report to the Director of Global Public Relations.
This position is responsible for all communications including selecting and managing PR and Social Media agencies across the five operating countries of the Americas region. The primary goal is to increase overall brand awareness for Equinix in the Americas region amongst our target B2B customers, while maintaining alignment with global messaging and objectives.
In addition, this role supports an integrated marketing approach, ensuring consistent messaging is delivered to the target audience across a variety of marketing channels – owned, earned, and paid – in tandem with the other marketing functions operating in region and in country.
The ideal candidate will have strong understanding and experience working in a multi-channel, multi-country marketing environment, preferably with IT industry experience. Responsibilities
Develop a coordinated, Americas-wide corporate communications strategy (with an emphasis on PR and social) that aligns to the global communications strategy and incorporates local flavor
Be a trusted advisor, provide expert communications counsel, and partner closely with diverse stakeholders across the region and within the global Marketing team to collaborate, gain alignment and deliver an integrated go-to-market strategy
Oversee the selection of regional PR and Social Media agencies, manage those critical relationships across the region and align with the corporate team in Redwood City, California
Identify and implement scalable operational mechanisms (tools) for effective communication serving various needs within the region
Contribute to the policies, guidelines and operations of communications programs and tactically manage and oversee that policies are adhered to within the region
Support the Americas regional president and country managers in PR and social initiatives
Coordinate social media strategy across country and regional channels, manage paid social media programs, support blog development by regional subject matter experts for the global and regional blogs, and amplify relevant content to increase brand awareness
Support broader business initiatives such as M&A, Equinix Impact events and promotion, integration with the company’s channel strategy, corporate executive travel in region, etc.
Set measurable objectives and KPIs to gauge the communications impact and effectiveness and oversee communications measurement, including the implementation of relevant dashboards and reports
Management of budget and resource allocation to support success and efficiency
Implement identified protocols and practices for crisis communications in the region
Qualifications
Seasoned communications professional with 10+ years experience in managing communications programs - preferably at a high-growth, fast paced technology company
Self-directed strategic thinker capable of collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and making an impact quickly
This is a strategic and tactical (executional) position combined into one key role; therefore, the ability to do the work as well as plan the work are critical to the success of this role
Experience managing multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Excellent follow-through skills are a necessity.
A self-starter with the ability to formulate a clear point of view and exercise sound judgement
Ability to shape and drive strategy regionally
Excellent at creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships across all levels and disciplines, receptive to feedback and input from others and quick to apply changes
A proven people-manager with strong leadership skills who understands and values not just the “what” required from team members but the importance of the cultural “how”
Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Thrives in a team environment and has a track record of developing effective and trusted relationships at all levels of a matrixed organization

BA/BS degree in marketing, communications or equivalent required
In addition to English, proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French is a plus
