Job Description:

Horton Automatics, a Division of Overhead Door Corporation, has an immediate opening for an experienced Electrical Engineer to develop and design controls and peripherals for our automated entrance solutions. 

We are the leader in the development and manufacture of automatic entrance systems for commercial and industrial markets with a variety of automatic entrance systems. Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, Horton Automatics builds about 35,000 automatic doors, revolving doors, security entrances and windows annually.  Its customers include restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, airports, hotels, casinos, office buildings, convenience stores, retail food stores and government buildings. This position will be based at our technical center located in Dallas Texas.

Responsibilities


  • Designs printed circuit boards (PCBs) from schematic to outsource packages for vendor evaluation of electronic control systems utilizing microcontrollers in conjunction with Software engineers for the operation, monitoring and troubleshooting of automated entrance doors.

  • Designs motor drive circuits primarily for brush type DC motors

  • Designs data communication capability into hardware designs allowing door controls to communicate via Modbus, Canbus or TCP/IP protocol with external systems

  • Works with vendors to ensure that controls meet specifications, reduce costs, resolve issues and improve reliability.

  • Coordinates activities with engineering and marketing team members to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget; reviews status reports prepared by the project personnel and modifies schedule or plan as required.

  • Establishes and maintains contacts with internal and external customers, to provide information, gain acceptance and support of the project, and ensure that the project meets the customer needs.

  • Hands on Prototyping of design concepts and testing of controls to validate design.

  • Assists Technical support troubleshoot field difficulties as required

  • Assists vendors identify alternate electronic parts for cost reduction or during times of availability issues.

  • Advises engineering and marketing teams on potential product improvements.

  • Reports project status to senior management in a concise and clear manner.

Qualifications


  • 5+ years' experience managing large, highly visible projects with multiple vendors in engineering and technology.

  • Design of system level electronic PCB assemblies, preferably including motor controls.

  • Component level troubleshooting ability.

  • Ability to provide leadership on electrical design projects.

  • PMI certification is preferred.

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Product design background encompassing embedded microcontrollers.

  • Knowledgeable in C / C++ firmware development.

Education


  • BS / MS in Electrical Engineering

Travel


  • Will be required to travel for internal and vendor meetings.
