Maintenance & Facilities Tech at Har-Tru in Charlottesville, Virginia

Job Description:

HarTru LLC is seeking a Maintenance and Facilities Tech to lead and perform the maintenance function for the company’s manufacturing operation in Troy Virginia. This includes developing and implementing preventative maintenance measures, developing SOP’s for all equipment maintenance, hands-on maintenance activities, overseeing contractors and vendors, and promoting an efficient and safe culture throughout the plant.

Duties include but are not limited to: 

• Plan and organize all short term and long term maintenance, minimizing downtime.


• Perform and document all scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance activity.


• Maintain spare parts inventory.


• Ensure all equipment has documented operating procedures and all manuals are kept up-to-date.


• Hands-on maintenance and repair of plant and equipment. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.  Equipment includes crushing, screening, dust collectors, packaging equipment, motors, conveyor belts, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps and gearbox repairs.


• Weld, cut and assemble metals and other materials with precision to maintain plant equipment and facilities.


• Inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and modifying electrical components and systems


• Perform general electrical maintenance. Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components.


• Install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures


• Train and support manufacturing employees in regards to operation and maintenance of equipment as needed.


• Manage/coordinate quotes from vendors for parts and services and oversee outside contractors working in the facility.


• Ensure the facility’s safety and environmental controls are current and compliant by working closely with the EH&S group and plant management. Ensure annual safety audit tasks are prioritized and completed.


• Supervise all general building maintenance including the upkeep of grounds and landscaping. Keep the building and grounds in a clean and orderly condition by examining on a regular basis for needed repairs, maintenance, and cleanliness. 

Qualifications: 

Requires a High School diploma and/or GED, and at least 2 years of experience plus hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment including mechanical, electrical, and equipment maintenance.  Proven experience as a welder. Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) is preferred.  Demonstrated ability to manage employees.  Excellent leadership skills, verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills and technical competency.  Ability to administratively mange and oversee preventative maintenance programs.  Ability to work second shift and/or weekends when necessary.
