JOB TITLE: SSH Inspector I                                                                           JOB GRADE: NE06


FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt                                                                            DEPARTMENT NAME: P-2 / Inspection


DEPARTMENT CODE: INSPDR                                                                      REPORTS TO: Supervisor


We welcome all applicants. Candidates in the hospitality, housekeeping and laundry industry would be a plus. High School Diploma or GED is required.  CRC certificate a plus but can be obtained before employment.


I. POSITION SUMMARY A. Measures, weighs, visually inspects and packages fired ceramic products. Operates and monitors the ISO (Isostatic Testing) process, which involves the strength testing of fired ceramic products. These are integral procedures in the manufacturing of ceramic products that meet the required specifications & quality standards.


II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):


A. Uses the FIR (Final Inspection Record) to set up the line (the FIR includes all of the necessary gauges to perform the inspection process)


B. Verifies all of the required gauges and dimensional characteristics by referencing the Verification Sheet and confirming calibration dates are current


C. Retrieves products from the Rack Server or Fired Body Storage areas; and delivers the products to the assigned staging areas


D. Performs power-up/start-up procedures according to established instructions


E. Applies part specific visual criteria understanding to visually inspect the entirety of each part


F. Verifies the conformance of the product to customer specifications by using measuring gauges and weighing on scales


G. Records inspection process data; inputs data into the company’s information systems


H. Places the inspected and approved products into boxes in accordance with established work instructions


I. Verifies the travel tickets that are to be tested by referencing the posted travel ticket listing and retrieves the pallets of product with the appropriate ticket numbers


J. Performs the ISO testing machine start-up and set-up procedures according to the approved work instructions


K. Operates and monitors the ISO machine process; and upon completion of the testing process, removes the product and visually inspects the product for damage


L. Vacuums the ISO machine, as required, and keeps the work area orderly and clean


M. Segregates non-conforming products according to established instructions


N. Uses caution when using cutting instruments; uses proper lifting techniques; uses chemicals with caution and in accordance with the Safety Data Sheets; stacks finishing pallets to a maximum of seven high (to avoid lifting and falling accidents); and works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; and using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings


O. Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed


P. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials


Q. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


A. Required Education and/or Experience


1. Must be able to successfully complete all required job training.


2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


3. 6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent


4. CRC Bronze or above


Required Language Skills


1. Ability to read and comprehend work instructions.


2. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.


C. Required Mathematical Skills


1. Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


D. Required Reasoning Ability


1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.


2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


E. Other Preferred Skills


1. Certified Production Technician program completion

D. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT


A. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and extreme heat.


B. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles.


C. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE 


A. Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property.


B. Safety glasses or goggles may be required while performing certain job duties.


C. Task appropriate gloves may be required while performing certain job duties.
