How you will contribute

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for our Quality Inspector position at the Steele, Alabama Coatings Site. This is an entry level, hourly, 2nd shift position. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will complete a final in-house inspection of customer product after the galvanizing and/or paint process based on ASTM standards. * Check and inspect product for flaws or defects

* Assess product according to ASTM standards

* Take mill readings using a positector 6000 probe

* Approve product for movement to paint and/or shipping

* Upload data from positector to computer

* Guide and train finishers on recognizing and repairing defects

* Guide and train finishers in metalizing process

* Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping

* Work safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury

* Operate an overhead crane and combi lift

What it takes

Required Qualifications

* The ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions

* The ability to operate a computer and use standards programs (word, outlook, excel)

* The ability to read and understand blue prints

* Must pay close attention to detail

* The ability to understand and utilize training

* Must be able to make clear and concise decisions

* Must be self-supervising at times

* The ability to communicate problems or needs to coworkers and supervision

* Must be a team player and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

* The ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to shoulder height or higher

* Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time (length of shift) in an open air environment; push, pull, bend, reach, walk, squat, grasp, kneel

* Must be able to wear all required PPE and maintain a safe work environment

* The ability to operate an overhead crane and combi lift

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent

* Six months of previous experience in a quality position

* Six months of previous experience with reading and using mil gauges

* Six month of previous experience operating a crane and forklift

* The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

* The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions

* Must have a high awareness for safety at all times

* Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

* Six months of previous experience in an industrial or galvanizing environment
