Position Brand Description:

Reporting to the VP of Technical Operations the Senior Director for Elanco TS/MS is responsible for providing technical and strategic leadership for Elanco’s TS/MS function at a network level.  Initially this role will support the integration of the small molecule network from a TSMS perspective but will evolve to focus on sites with powders/solids platforms (circa 2021), providing functional leadership to a minimum of seven sites. The network director role is accountable for all technical product and process support activities for designated product sites.  Additionally, this role is accountable for TS/MS Commercialization of dry product small molecules working with Elanco R&D within the designated network. 

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

• Elanco Tech Ops Manufacturing Dry Product Sites – Ongoing Operations.  Responsibilities include: a) ensuring that products and processes at the sites are in control, capable, compliant and continuously improving, b) ensuring that the sites meet the Global Quality and Manufacturing Standards and have the right technical capability measures in place.


• The network TS director will partner with the applicable site head/network leader to assure that the right TS functional capability is in place at each of the sites and that robust succession planning exists for the TSMS functions within the network.


• The Senior Director is accountable for ensuring that tech productivity and business continuity projects are completed on time, with robust manufacturing control strategies implemented at the sites ( examples include insourcing, tech transfers, source changes, process optimizations, yield improvements)


• Deliver Elanco’s TS/MS commercialization process as it relates to new products coming from R&D to the manufacturing sites mentioned.  Responsibilities include: a) ensuring the robust implementation of the manufacturability review process and b) ensuring that the right technical capability (TS/MS) is in place for Elanco commercialization activities at the covered sites.


• The Sr. Director will have accountability to drive the network technical agenda, including implementation of technical productivity initiatives to increase Elanco’s overall gross margin and monthly representation at TAST.


• Potential Business Development and Acquisitions:  Responsibilities include: a) assessing technical capabilities / gaps of potential business deals or acquisitions, b) assisting in the development of Quality/Technical and Commercial Agreements, c) reviewing and approving technical transfer plans or other technical elements to do with acquisitions.


• Assist sites with critical process related investigation that have the potential to impact product supply.


• Grow the talent pipeline in TSMS, through participation in recruitment processes for key talents, and development of IDP’s for colleagues within the network and function.


• Support the integration of new sites within the Elanco Tech Ops function, through aligning on standard expectations and roll out of process capability governance.

Minimum Requirements:

• Experience in a variety of small molecule technologies and platforms is preferred:  API synthesis, liquid formulation, dry granulation /wet granulation, blending, compression, coating, and packaging technology.


• Effective communication in multi-cultural settings


• Ability to influence people


• Ability to build collaborative relationships with areas inside and outside of Elanco


• Familiarity with the Elanco Global Quality Standards


• Experience in corporate TS/MS business processes


• Understanding of statistics and process capability measurements.

Additional Preferences:

• No medical sensitivities to Elanco Animal Health products


• Monday-Friday, normal flexible hours

Education Requirements:

• BS in a Scientific Field.   Advanced Degree (MS, PhD) or equivalent experience preferred.

Other Information:

• International travel required. Senior Directors visit each of their network’s manufacturing sites and key CMs 1-2 times per year, and need to be available for travel to support significant investigations.


• May be based in Europe, UK or USA Indiana.
