Job Title Sustainable Energy and Environmental Manager Primary Location Maryland Heights, Missouri Employee Type Employee Job Description This position involves leadership and management activities focused on advancing renewable energy and other sustainable energy projects while maintaining secure long term, cost effective solutions for the safe handling of waste by-products (leachate and gas) and managing these waste by-products in full compliance with all requirements and ensuring no nuisance issues. The role can be organized into two functional areas: Waste By-Product Control and Management Systems

• Manage and Maintain Waste By-Product Systems:
  
  
  • Monitor and manage the landfill gas collection system (GCCS) optimizing the wellfield and preventing any offsite odors;
  
  
  • Mitigate any offsite landfill gas migration;
  
  
  • Maintain the leachate collection system and pre-treatment processes to ensure discharge limits are not exceeded.
  
  
  • Operate within assigned site budgets. Notify the District Manager if activities are forecasted to exceed budgeted or accrued amount
  
  
  
  


• Oversee groundwater monitoring program and ensure surface water systems are in compliance on a daily basis.


• Maintain and continually improve data collection and assimilation tools to improve operating efficiencies. Maintain and update Environmental Monitoring and Management Plans.


• Supervise and monitor closed landfill operations to ensure that site operations are in compliance with all corporate environmental safety requirements.


• Supervise contractors and consultants conducting maintenance work in order to ensure the quality and timeliness of their work. Utilize the competitive bidding process in the selection of maintenance contractors and consultants. Ensure that all third party contractors and consultants are compliant with all corporate insurance and safety requirements.


• Ensure that all data submittals to management and regulatory agencies are collected, analyzed and submitted on time. Utilize internal compliance system to achieve this requirement.


• Maintain positive relationships and continually forge new relationships with regulators, local governments, stakeholders and local communities surrounding the site.

Sustainable Energy Programs

• Lead business opportunities meeting Waste Connections pro forma criteria to maximize the recovery of energy and material value derived from discarded waste.


• Work across all functional areas of the business to continually identify opportunities to reduce the business carbon footprint. Lead the planning and execution of these 'green' initiatives including the cost increases/decreases associated with implemented measures


• Ensure strong communications and coordination with Sustainable Project Developers and Utilities, ensuring that Parties conform to all contractual requirements and other obligations.


• Lead activities promoting a strengthening of relationships between interested parties and other stakeholders and the company through various proactive measures including educational partnerships, tours, presentations and other community engagement initiatives

Qualifications:

• Min 4-Yr Degree in Engineering or Sciences


• 10 yrs or more experience in a related field such as renewable energy project development, landfill gas system management, oil & gas production/refining.

• Strong analytical skills and detail-oriented


• Excellent communication/verbal reasoning


• Public speaking experience
