Best Buy is seeking an innovative and technically curious Senior Engineering Manager – Testing Environments (SEM) to join Best Buy's Resilience, Reliability and Quality Team. The SEM must be able to understand and demonstrate the discipline of providing, supporting and maintaining development and testing environments for Best Buy’s Digital and Technology teams.
This is a hands-on SEM position. In addition to having core Environment Management competency, they will be expected to show strong communication skills, and have experience leading / managing a team to create/guide and deliver as per set KPI’s/OKR’s. They will be a self-starter with ability to understand development and test strategy and liaise with relevant teams and efficiently direct how dev/test should be built and managed. In this role, you'll be called upon to lead agile teams of skilled web infrastructure engineers and test environment engineer.
You will be liaising frequently with Product and Development teams as well as quality engineers to help determine future environment capability and the requirements needed. You will direct, control, and manage the enterprise level test environments using process, tools and resources.
Key position responsibilities include:

• Proven relevant experience in environment management of test systems gained as an environment manager


• Analyze existing environments and arbitrate discussions around Environment Management i.e. if gaps are identified, recommends solutions


• Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to understand modern approaches to deployment automation on both cloud-based infrastructure and bare-metal servers and work closely with appropriate technology partners to bring about changes


• Communicate with leadership on topics including project timelines, contingency plans, environment budgets, and resource allocation


• Demonstrate pro-active approach in resolving issues and enhancing supportability of environments


• Help design systems to support CI/CD initiatives and support on-demand, self-service automation


• Work with other team members to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.


• Ensure all environments are properly documented and that documentation is socialized appropriately

• 8+ years related web infrastructure experience with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field


• 2+ years of leadership experience


• 6+ years’ experience with server-side technology such as such as Apache, NodeJS, HAProxy, Tomcat & Jboss


• 6+ years’ shell programming experience with technology such as Perl, Ruby, Python

• Able to collaborate in a fast-paced environment with different stakeholders including engineers, testers, product managers, and user experience leads


• 4+ years' experience in Database administration such as MySQL, Cassandra & Oracle


• 4+ years of experience with messaging infrastructure such as IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka


• Shell programming experience with Bash, strong command-line, and experience with one of the following technology - Perl, Ruby, Python


• Experience with server monitoring systems like Prometheus or Nagios


• Experience with server automation with Chef configuration management tool


• Experience with container orchestration systems such as Docker (OpenShift or Kubernetes)


• Ability to manage time and priorities


• Excellent at problem solving/Critical Thinking


• Inquisitive, with a willingness to ask questions


• Able to identify patterns and discrepancies in data


• Extensive experience in implementation of the version control software SVN, CVS, Git


• Experience using Maven to build, run and create JARs and WAR files among other uses
