Responsible to administer or oversee the respiratory protection program and conduct the required evaluations of program effectiveness.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of Program Specialist, RPP at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Update the RPP as changes are made, and as a result of annual program evaluations using observations made during fit testing, medical clearance, PPE use, cleaning, storage, etc.
- Perform written hazard analysis as a basis for all new products and RPP changes.
- Develop and implement procedures for selecting respirators for use in the workplace.
- Develop and implement procedures for proper use of respirators in routine and reasonably foreseeable emergency situations.
- Develop and implement procedures and schedules for cleaning, disinfecting, storing, inspecting, repairing, discarding, and otherwise maintaining respirators.
- Develop and implement procedures to ensure adequate air quality, quantity, and flow of breathing air for atmosphere-supplying respirators.
- Conduct training of employees in the respiratory hazards to which they are potentially exposed during routine and emergency situations.
- Conduct training of employees in the proper use of respirators, including putting on and removing them, any limitations on their use, and their maintenance; and cleaning.
- Identify work areas, processes, or tasks that require respiratory protection based upon hazard analysis.
- Monitor OSHA policy and standards for changes and make changes to RPP.
- Select respiratory protection products.
- Monitor respirator use to ensure that respirators are used in accordance with their certification.
- Distribute and evaluate education/medical questionnaire.
- Evaluate any feedback information or surveys.
- Conduct hazard assessments.
- Arrange, in collaboration with occupational health; PAPR training and education is provided for high risk groups identified and for those individuals who are unable to be fit tested to N95 respirators.
- Arrange for and/or conduct training for fit testers, PAPR and EHFR, SCUBA and other RP wearers.
- Create process and workflow for proper storage and maintenance of respiratory protection equipment.
- Other safety related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree with 3 years of safety experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of TJC's Environment of Care and Life safety standards and requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to safety and fire safety; ability to identify and evaluate hazard and risks and make effective recommendations based upon comprehensive, regulatory compliant assessments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials; ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to conduct team member injury investigations.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- OSHA Hazwopper - 40 hour training.
- Knowledgeable of OSHA.1910.134 and other sections of 29 CFR 1910.
- Knowledge of EPA and local NJDEP requirements.
- Public speaking and training experience.
- Performance and project management skills preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- Certified Health Safety Professional or Certified Health Fire Safety Professional.
