Seeking a chemist with materials test experience to support a fast-paced materials design team in development of materials for 3D printing. Candidate must possess strong laboratory skills. Must be a self-starter, team player, able to change priorities quickly, and have excellent communication skills. Primary duties will include using analytical instruments and executing performance/reliability testing of materials in development. Other responsibilities may include lab work supporting chemists and process engineers that are developing the materials.
Responsibilities
Understand and follow test plans, procedures, and lab processes
Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment
Operate lab analytical equipment to characterize material properties. Experience with Instron mechanical test frames, IZOD impact testing, GC, thermal analysis and/or rheology is particularly valuable.
Coordinate and execute materials reliability testing. An example would be storing material in ovens for set times and measuring properties before and after.
Organize and maintain laboratory supplies
Follow written and verbal instructions from chemists and engineers in the group
Communicate effectively with other team members, both verbally and in writing; this includes communicating out of the ordinary circumstances, changes in procedures, or other information which may be considered useful.
Qualifications
Education and Training:
1- 3 years' experience working in a laboratory setting
A Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related science is preferred
Experience:
Direct, hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting
Use of analytical instruments to measure material properties
Experience operating an Instron test stand with Bluehill 3 software and DSC, DMA operation and analysis would be particularly valuable
Experience working with chemicals that require personal protective equipment and careful lab practices
Proficient in Excel for data collection

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, self-directed environment, document detailed results, and communicate to chemists and engineers
Ability to read and follow scientific laboratory methods and procedures
Basic knowledge of chemical handling and storage required
Comfortable working in a chemical development environment
Must be able to work with UV curable acrylate systems
Attention to detail, organized, and thorough in completing tasks
