JOB SUMMARY:

Physical Therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease including accidents, disabling conditions such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Consults and practices with other professionals such as physicians, dentists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

* Develops plans describing a treatment strategy and its anticipated outcome.

* Evaluates patient s condition and devises a customized physical rehabilitation and treatment plan to enhance strength, flexibility, range of motion, motor control, and reduce any pain, discomfort and swelling the patient may be experiencing.

* Examine patients medical history.

* Provides a variety of medical services to help patients improve their individual functions and recover from injuries or illness.

* Responsible for documenting the patient s progress, conducting periodic examinations, and modifying treatments when necessary.

* Responsible for using electrical stimulation, hot packs or cold compresses, and ultrasound to relieve pain and reduce swelling.

* Restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health.

* Shows patients how to do exercise at home to expedite their recovery.

* Teaches patients to use assistive and adaptive devices, such as crutches, prostheses, and wheelchairs.

* Tests and measures the patients strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function.

* Uses traction or deep-tissue massage to relieve pain and improve circulation and flexibility.

* Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Master s Degree and/or Doctoral Degree from an accredited physical therapy program. Must have completed an accredited physical therapy education program and passed the required licensure exam. NJ State License.
