We are now looking for a highly motivated Thermal Architect to join this dynamic and innovative Thermal Engineering Design team to lead and craft the next generation of thermal innovation and designs. This person will also lead activities related to efficient processes and will likely focus on primarily one business area with emphasis on bridging the company and team collaborative needs from technology development to product applications.

As part of this exciting multi-functional team, your task would be to create thermal architectures and develop technologies for including but not limited to Desktops, Servers, Automotive, and NVIDIA Shield with a general focus on improving and enabling thermal aspects of product designs and infrastructure. We challenge the status quo and the leading edge of computing. As a team, we support all products NVIDIA develops. Your contribution will be towards leading and coordinating architectural ideas for product concepts, and supporting translation of those concepts into specifications, designs, and manufacturing implementations from package to systems and contribute to the team's general growth. Be an integral member of a collaborative team which defines and develops thermal solutions working with multi-functional Product teams and overseas partners.

What you'll be doing:

On this team, the goals and objectives are carried out through a high degree of collaboration and use of state-of-the-art methods and technologies, analytical and computational analysis, and laboratory validation of prototypes. These methods and processes are developed within NVIDIA's thermal team. Part of your responsibility is proactively identifying and investigating alternate thermal technologies that will empower products, presenting relevant design concepts, and driving analysis and trade-offs aligned with product goals, and contributing to thermal solution designs from beginning to end (i.e. conceptualization to production). You will also:


  • Design new thermal solutions in anticipation of and to enable new products


  • Build physical prototype assemblies and characterize them in the laboratory


  • Summarize and correlate data, modify designs, and improve our systems


  • Create summaries, and generally detail your efforts to broaden the knowledge of the team and company


  • Work with our team in continuously seeking ways to improve from lessons learned, into building better infrastructures and processes


What we need to see:


  • BSME minimum or equivalent experience


  • 12+ years relevant experience in product design, as well as strong thermal and validation engineering technical background with product development knowledge including related manufacturing processes.


  • Solid understanding of FEA/CFD theory, and analysis tools related to heat transfer including excellent knowledge of at least one thermal analysis SW (e.g. IcePak, FloTHERM, Fluent)


  • Hands-on experience/proficiency in thermal and mechanical evaluation of computer hardware and advanced thermal management technologies


  • Ability to visualize, clarify, and drive product needs individually and through cross-functional teams from fundamental concepts through system considerations to ensure optimal designs


  • Experience in volume manufacturing and working with overseas manufacturers including experience in leading outside resources, component suppliers, and manufacturing partners


  • Deep understanding of technology and passionate about what you do


  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, specifically a proven ability to effectively guide and influence within a dynamic matrix environment; Solid level of openness/ability to thrive on consideration of unconventional approaches


  • Experience related to servers would be a plus


Ways to stand out from the crowd:


  • Extensive experience with server design


  • Process and infrastructure development


  • Server thermal strategy / roadmap development


  • Well-rounded background in product architecting, development, design, manufacturing with good exposure to package to product integration knowledge/experience


  • A high level of experience in product development and design while retaining an openness to unconventional ideas is highly valued
