Patient Service Representative (Part-time Evenings) at Excelsior Orthopaedics in Amherst, New York

Job Description:

*This is a part time position.  Hours will be: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 4:00pm until 9:00pm*

1. Greets all incoming patients, verifies appointment and insurance information. Obtains all other necessary paperwork, enters data into practice management system. Directs patients to waiting areas.


2. Maintains patient flow and monitors waiting area conditions. Communicates with patients as necessary, particularly during times of lengthy delays.


3. Performs registration procedures for new patients. Obtains all necessary demographic, insurance and payment information. May explain insurance eligibility criteria and coverage to patient. Reviews copayment amounts. May communicate with insurance carriers to obtain or verify information.


4. Generates reports and other documentation for patient charts.


5. Check out duties - assists physicians and other providers in efficient flow of patients in the exam rooms and treatment areas.


6. Processes referrals and other paperwork for providers, collects copayments and patient financial responsibilities and schedules follow up appointments.


7. Retrieves and organizes patient charts for following day's appointments according to specifications of each physician. Obtains missing reports and documentation for charts as necessary.


8. Answers telephones and directs the caller to the appropriate associate. Will transfer a caller to an associate’s voice mailbox when the associate is unavailable.


9. Assists with other related clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing, and filing.

• Previous customer service experience required 


• 1-2 years reception/registration experience in a medical office preferred


• Knowledge of HMO, PPO and other insurances


• Experience with Medent system preferred.
