Responsibilities
The Business Officer of the School of Medicine has primary responsibility for providing high-level strategic and tactical analysis and coordination of financial/budgetary matters throughout the School of Medicine on behalf of the Executive Assistant Dean (EAD) and the Senior Manager of Finance and Planning. This position also provides oversight and direction to School of Medicine departments and centers regarding budgetary issues, financial controls and accountability, business information, start-up faculty packages and financial management. The Business Officer advises the EAD and Senior Manager on policy, resource allocations, initiatives, and organizational structure. The position is one of four of the School s primary interfaces with UC Davis Health System Financial Services and is the representative for the EAD or Senior Manager when they are unavailable.
Required Qualifications
* Experience with problem- solving techniques to analyze complex problems or information in an objective manner, derive logical conclusion, and initiate appropriate action for effective resolution and follow through.
* Demonstrated in depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and demonstrated skill in applying them for complex accounting support management.
* In depth knowledge of University and campus policies for the Detailed Budget Staffing and Fiscal Close deadlines.
* Knowledge of University and campus policies and procedures and ability to interpret.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the School of Medicine's Health Sciences Compensation Plan and of the Health Science Severance Pay Plan guidelines.
* Extensive working knowledge of computers and various computer programs, Financial Management systems, on-line line staffing and open provision database.
* Excellent communication skills (verbally and in writing) to establish and maintain good rapport with faculty, staff and co-workers.
* Presentation skills to provide training as needed to School of Medicine administrators.
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills demonstrated by effective working relationships with staff, clear communication of goals and objectives.
* Experience promoting teamwork, and concern for the professional development of staff.
Special Requirements
Occasional need to work overtime and/or alternate shifts, weekends, variable hours. Must be able to travel and work in both UC Davis and UC Davis Sacramento campuses
