You will lead research efforts to identify and develop new approaches to human-machine collaboration that will improve performance of individuals and teams through applications of innovative technology such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, exoskeletons, and robotics. Other responsibilities include:

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders.

- Contribute to the design of collaborative human-machine systems, including:

- Data collection, measurement, and analysis approaches;

- Data visualization, user interfaces, and user experiences;

- Systems that integrate visual analytic solutions to enable decision-making.

- Contribute to the development of collaborative human-machine systems, including:

- Use rapid prototyping and agile methods during implementation;

- Build, maintain, and mature reusable libraries, tools, and applications.

- Contribute to research studies that assess our collaborative human-machine systems, including:

- Computational performance of measurement and analysis approaches;

- Usability and usefulness of visualizations, interfaces, and experiences;

- Utility and comparative performance of integrated systems.

- Contribute to collaborative research and development processes, including:

- Design sprints and code reviews;

- Evangelizing scientific and technical approaches;

- Crafting proposals, managing projects, engaging customers, and publishing findings.

Experience Needed

- Implementing modern web application frameworks (React, Angular)

- Implementing REST APIs in Python using the Flask framework

- Instrumenting software and/or user interfaces to measure use and performance

- Working with non-SQL database technologies, such as ElasticSearch, ArangoDB, or Cassandra

- Working with broker message passing APIs and services, such as MQTT or RabbitMQ

- Working with agile software development methods and tools

- Comfort with using command line tools, such as bash, make, grep, etc.

- Using git with GitLab, GitHub, or another code management solution

- Using task or issue tracking tools for workload management

- Using Docker in development and production

- Participating in code and design reviews

- Designing and executing research studies with human participants

- Working with quantitative and qualitative analysis of data from human-in-the-loop research

- Writing and/or presenting research findings in conferences, journals, etc.

- Writing proposals and/or grant applications

Minimum Requirements

- U.S. Citizenship required or the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

- Masters' Degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related technical field with

- 5+ years' working experience

Working Conditions (ADA accommodations may be sought):
