Overview
Perform laboratory procedures and experiments investigating: 1) the role of airway epithelial cells in pediatric asthma, and 2) host airway epithelial innate immune responses to viral infections, including human rhinovirus and SARS-CoV2 infection. Preferred Technical skills include human primary airway epithelial cell, lung stromal cell, and immune cell tissue culture, differentiation of airway epithelial cells at an air-liquid interface, gene knockdown using lentiviral shRNA and gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9 methods in primary human airway epithelial cell lines, microscopy (phase contrast; fluorescent), biochemical assays, RNA isolation, qPCR, protein assays and ELISA. SARS-CoV2 work includes infection of airway epithelial cells in a BSL-3 laboratory.
Work as part of a team with lab technicians, students, clinical research associate, and principal investigators to complete daily lab tasks, Collect, verify and record data; compile information in support of research. Apply knowledge and skills applicable to assigned technical discipline.
Requirements
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology OR college-level coursework in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or in a related science curriculum AND equivalent lab experience.

Preferred:
Prior Lab Experience with:
- Set up and maintenance of tissue culture
- RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, quantitative PCR using TaqMan probes
- Conduct of protein and ELISA assays
- Use of shRNA or siRNA for gene knockdown experiments and/or CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing in primary cells
- Flow cytometry
- Experience with phase contrast and fluorescent microscopy
