Senior Quality Engineer - Packaging at General Mills, Inc in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description:

The Senior Quality Engineer - Packaging champions packaging supplier food safety, manages packaging categories, builds alignment and strategy with cross functional partners, provides technical expertise, and leads risk assessments and root cause analysis activities for issue resolution.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Champion packaging supplier food safety and regulatory compliance
- Manage specific packaging categories by identifying and reducing supplier food safety and regulatory risk, providing technical category expertise, and assessing supplier performance
- Conduct packaging vendor audits (25-30% travel) to ensure vendor compliance with the General Mills Supplier Packaging Manual and be responsible for follow-up to drive risk reduction for GMI
- Lead risk assessment and root cause analysis activities for issue resolution
- Provide food safety, quality and regulatory training with our suppliers and external GMI partners
- Approve and ensure accurate packaging specifications and resolve specification conflicts
- Partner with GMI plants and suppliers to achieve 99.7% defect free shipments for packaging materials by utilizing Continuous Improvement tools
- Provide support as needed for global XQM and regional XQM initiatives including but not limited to process improvements, process standardization, and team development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- 5-7 years of related experience
- Packaging materials experience
- Physical, chemical and biological hazards
- Food science, sanitation and food safety
- Influence & ability to work independently
- Risk management & assessment experience
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Manufacturing and auditing/consulting experience
- Experience with Rigid Plastics & metal material categories.
- Provide technical leadership to internal and external teams
- Extensive expertise with GMI's global packaging food safety programs
- Self-starter who can prioritize workload while meeting commitments
- External connections with packaging, quality or food safety professionals
- A team player who is willing to help their teammates as needed
- Willing to be flexible with travel and work schedule .
