Here everyone matters and you will be a vital contributor to our inspiring, bold mission.  As a Scientist working on the Computational Biology team, you will be empowered to take initiative and perform computational and statistical analysis of human genetics data sets.

OBJECTIVES:


  • Analyzing and interpreting high dimensional molecular data for the development of RNA Therapeutics

  • Identifying and developing advanced computational biology approaches to develop RNA-targeting drugs and provide translational medicine hypotheses.


  • Generate data insights to drive RNA-targeting projects; interface with research teams and support the data analysis and interpretation needs of RNA-targeting projects

  • Drive collaborations with internal groups, external partners, including CROs and academia for data analysis and machine learning.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Support RNA therapeutic teams to identify and validate novel drug targets and achieve translational medicine objectives using advanced computational biology techniques.

  • Interact closely with biologists in the DDS/DDU to design experimental studies, plan analyses, data integration and data interpretation.

  • In silico design of RNA-targeting drugs based on RNA structure and/or sequence

  • Identify, build, and use computational pipelines to design and screen oligonucleotide-target RNA interactions as well as functional impact in diseases

  • Identify, build, and use computational pipelines to model and screen RNA-ligand interactions as well as functional impact in diseases .

  • Interpret preclinical and clinical datasets using appropriate statistical methods.

  • Create visualizations, interpret high dimensional data and explain results to cross-functional teams.

  • Perform integrative modeling with multiple types of experimental datasets, including chemical probing, CryoEM, SAXS, etc.

  • Develop machine learning algorithms, including deep neural network algorithms.

  • Independently conduct data analysis tasks within a project scope, exercising judgement to evaluate a variety of statistical factors.

  • Independently keep abreast of current literature in computational biology for drug development.

  • Schedule and execute on tasks to meet deadlines.

  • Maintain and share code.

  • Plan and coordinate computational biology activities internally and in partnership with external CROs and academic partners, including complex projects requiring multiple members of the team and organization.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive scientific reports to a full range of internal and external audiences.

  • Work collaboratively with data scientists and data engineering groups to enhance our computational infrastructure, user interface, query and visualization capabilities.

  • Writes study reports and presents data effectively in all settings and with participants of all levels of the organization.

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise


  • Knowledge of and experience with machine learning and bioinformatic techniques.

  • Experience with RNA structure modeling with experimental data derived from some of the following: SHAPE-Seq, LASER probing, CryoEM, SAXS, and NMR

  • Statistical modeling and machine learning to extract features or rules describing RNA-ligand interactions

  • Statistical modeling and machine learning to extract features or rules describing RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interactions

  • Hands-on experience developing and implementing bioinformatic pipelines forRNA-ligand interaction screening as well as databases for RNA-ligand interaction fingerprints .

  • Solid knowledge of Unix/Linux, command line interfaces, and fluency in some common scripting and/or programming language (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C / C++).

  • Familiarity with parallel computing, relational databases (e.g., SQL) and cloud computing or distributed computing (i.e. AWS)

  • Familiarity with Tensorflow/Keras or equivalent deep learning language

  • Theoretical knowledge of bioinformatics, computational biology; Keeps current with emerging trends in bioinformatics and computational biology

  • Familiarity with popular public domain data sources and programmatic interfaces

  • Experience in designing and conducting computational biology activities to meet program objectives; able to provide input on timelines and resource needs as indicated

  • In-depth knowledge of currently computational methods

  • Basic knowledge of biomedical science and technologies outside specific discipline

  • Strong scientific understanding of molecular biology and genomics

  • Excellent problem solving, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Independent, self-starting and supportive of team-based research and able to work effectively in a matrix organization

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 


  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline, or

  • MS with 6+ years experience, or

  • BS with 8+ years experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 


  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Able to work in a lab environment

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 5% travel may be required.
