General summary:

We are looking for a senior news executive who will oversee the audience building, brand product development and the business operations for News 12. This will include providing vision for overall execution of news and weather initiatives for the seven local news networks covering the tri-state and across a multi-media portfolio. This role will also direct all phases of administrative, financial and overall strategic product evolution in concert with the general manager.

Responsibilities

Content/Editorial Strategy:

* Ideate, surface and drive execution of brand enhancing opportunities that leverage audience research, industry innovations or hyperlocal developments. Strong journalism, contemporary production and digital/social considerations focused on audience needs are the baseline standards expected.

* Orchestrate network coverage strategy for all departments: news, engineering, marketing, digital, design, public relations.

* Provide strategic content direction and tactical guidance to the largest weather staff in the Northeast aimed platforms.

* This includes being the senior news interface with marketing, digital, outside vendors (especially WSI), operations, news directors and meteorologists. The weather executive producer will report to this role and aid in execution, direction and communication to thelocal teams.

* Partner with the General Manager in regular news product development and review, and also play a key role in network wide talent assessment, coaching, and strategy.

* Innovate, influence and lead the modernization of workflow and integration between digital and social media within our linear platforms.

* Lead the editorial strategy on political coverage across all the regions end to end.

* Negotiate and ensure smooth administration of all vendor relationships.

* Devises ongoing training and guides participants on smooth execution of training

News Operations:

* Serve as the senior liaison with Financial Planning to build and manage the News 12 budget and insure the development and review of all financial reports, presentations and analysis such as the monthly reports, budget updates and forecasts. This role will deeply analyze progress and propose action to ensure alignment to business needs/strategy

* Will manage and oversee performance metrics (such as spend, revenue, ratings, etc.), communicate updates to the leadership team, make recommendations to adjust based on needs of the organization and drive accountability throughout the organization.

* Provide leadership team with analysis of proposed projects, supply monthly metrics and perform operational/financial analysis to ensure business/news goals are being met, along with recommendations to adjust where needed and holding the team accountable to key goals.

* Act as primary liaison/interface with HR and Legal on matters. Will be the point of contact for overall organization structure (in partnership with HR and GM) and also influence/drive more efficient/more effective workflows in collaboration with key functional partners (marketing, digital, hr, legal, finance, etc).

* Recruit and identify internal personnel for promotion with a commitment to diversify the work force.

Qualifications:

* Minimum 10 years management experience in news/media preferably in TV and/or digital

* Bachelor s degree in media, business administration, finance or related field

* Experience successfully managing a P&L for growing media organization

* Demonstrated experience driving performance and achieving business goals in news/media space

* Track record of journalistic accomplishment

* Product development skill set

* Evidence of digital/social media accomplishments

* Strong understanding of news and ratings/performance measures

* Strategic thinker

* Technical knowledge of news gathering, production and distribution

* Strong financial acumen and mathematical skills

* Strong communicator internally and externally
