Responsibilities
This non-career position in the Prosthetics/Orthotics Section of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is designed to provide coverage for inpatient orthotics primarily on the weekend but can also include weekdays and holidays. The position will be part-time indefinitely. This position does not guarantee career employment at UCDHS. The position is responsible to provide direct patient care support for adult and pediatric patients requiring a variety of orthotic devices. Duties include treating patients, taking inventory, documentation, stocking supplies, and interacting with staff, patients, volunteers and visitors. The position must be filled by someone who can see well enough to observe patient s reactions. Hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day. This position requires someone who can work independently or with indirect supervision, someone who is qualified to evaluate, fit, adjust and deliver a variety of DMEPOS. And is certified with either ABC or BOC and is good standing with their certifying body.
Required Qualifications

* Must be a graduate from an NCOPE accredited prosthetic/orthotic/orthotic fitter educational program.

* Experience with applying, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.

* Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.

* Experience with exercising discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times.

* Experience communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients in order to work as a team member. Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads.

* Experience planning, organizing, and coordinating scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility.

* Experience verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel.

* Experience working with information required for patient and supply record keeping.

* Experience interpreting referral documents.

* Experience interviewing patients and referral sources.

* Experience taking historues and performing physical examinations.

* Experience with gross surface anatomy.

* Experience interpreting physical findings.

* Experience with normal and pathological gait and motion analysis.

* Experience with managing patients relative to their condition.

* Experience taking, measuring for oethosis, includigin upper limb, lower limb and spine.

* Expereince using mechanical measuring devices.

* Experience using electrical measuring devices.

* Experience using computer based measuring devices.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with Certified Orthotic Fitters (COF) three years post certification.

* Experience with CO's or CPO's is one year post certification.

* Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Record).

* Experience working in a hospital setting.

* Experience with inventory and ordering supplies.

Special Requirements

* Certification in prosthetics and orthotics (CPO) or certification in orthotics (CO).

* Must maintain and currently be in good standing with ABC and/or BOC certifying body.

* Must maintain certification.

* Must be able to occasionally work weekends and holidays.

* Must be certified in prosthetics and orthotics (CPO) or certified in orthotics (CO) with a minimum of 3 years experience post certification.

* Must maintain and currently in be good standing with ABC and/or BOC certifying body.

* Must be competent the application of all orthotic devices utilizes within the health system.

* Must be competent in the application of all orthotic devices utilizes within the health system.

* Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient medical record.

* Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patient and staff throughout the day.

* Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility.

* Must possess sufficient mobility to transverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution.

* Must have basic computer skills.

* Must be a graduate from an NCOPE accredited prosthetic/orthotic educational program.

This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
