DESCRIPTION

The Richard & Rhoda Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a quarter time, non-tenure track academic year Full Adjunct Professor position. GSPP is seeking a path-breaking scholar-practitioner who can provide leadership for its efforts to expand its curriculum in the social justice area and who can immediately teach a course in that area.

GSPP is looking for a senior policy scholar or professional with a JD or a PhD who has extensive experience with issues of race, inequality, and social justice in America. The person must be knowledgeable about the history of racial minorities and racism in America, especially their experiences in American cities. The individual must be immediately able to teach a core course in GSPP s Masters of Public Policy curriculum on race, inequality, discrimination, and social justice in American cities.

To ensure that the person will bring both the scholarly and practical experience required to teach this course in a professional masters program, the individual must have an extensive publication record on cities, housing, infrastructure, police reform, poverty, racism, and related areas and they must have experience as a practitioner in the field. The individual s publications in the field in terms of articles, books, and policy briefs must be at the level of a senior scholar appointed at the Adjunct Full Professor level. To ensure that their teaching and work will be policy-relevant, the individual must also have at least twenty years of high-level experience in leadership positions in organizations that use policy analysis to improve access and opportunity for all low-income people and for communities of color. The person must also have a proven track-record of at least five years of teaching courses on these topics.

We are looking for an individual who is a leader in their field who can help GSPP improve its curriculum in this crucial area and who can provide leadership and guidance to the school.

Teaching Responsibilities: Primary duties include teaching one graduate level course a year.

General Duties: In addition to teaching, duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, and advising and mentoring graduate students on independent research projects.

The minimum basic qualifications required to be considered an applicant for this position are: Ph.D., J.D. or equivalent international degree required at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate should have demonstrated excellence in teaching. An MPP or MPA degree strongly preferred. The individual must have an extensive publication record on cities, housing, infrastructure, police reform, poverty, racism, and related areas; experience as a practitioner in the field; and a proven track-record of at least five years of teaching courses on these topics.
