Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern. This role will be great for someone that has a passion for pharmacy and great customer service for our patients we serve. This specific position will work from the Nebraska Medicine campus in Omaha, NE.

The Pharmacy Intern role will be Part Time/Casual working week day evening shifts and weekends on both days/evening shifts. Shifts are five hours on weekdays and eight hours on weekends. To be considered for this role, one must be currently enrolled OR enrolled Fall 2020 in a ACPE Doctor of Pharmacy Program and either a licensed Nebraska Pharmacy Intern OR Registered as a Pharmacy Technician.

The Pharmacy Intern will gain experience in different areas within the Inpatient Pharmacy beginning as a P1 in the Dispensing areas. As a P2 and P3, the intern experiences direct patient interactions and toward the end of the internship will act as an extension of the Pharmacist.

The ideal candidate will be a current student in the Doctor of Pharmacy program in their P2 year for Fall of 2020. We may also current P1 Fall of 2020 depending on applicant pool.

Follow established policies and procedures. Receive, sort, compound, process, and distribute a variety of medication orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. Assist in the maintenance of drug inventory and records of drug distribution. Perform duties relevant to pharmacy operations, support following established policies and procedures. Perform accurate and reliable completion of designated responsibilities which affects the overall accuracy, reliability and acceptability of the department services. Provide excellent customer service and patient care in accordance with assigned duties. Must be supervised at all times while performing the essential functions of a pharmacist intern, which may include all aspects of pharmacy practice, unless otherwise restricted.

Required Qualifications:


  • Currently enrolled in an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program required.

  • Licensed Nebraska pharmacy intern or registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the systematic and efficient integration of the current technologies into the pharmacy and nursing practice to improve the care of the patient preferred.

  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks preferred.

  • The ability to make independent decisions regarding appropriate stock levels, drugs and supplies is a challenge preferred.

  • Good mathematical skills are necessary to properly carry out complex division and multiplication problems using a hand-held calculator preferred.

  • Maintain basic knowledge related to meeting age specific needs of the patient population served within the scope of this job description preferred.

  • Experience with typical office equipment (e.g., computers, dispensing cabinets (i.e. PYXIS), calculators, phones, pages, fax machines, hand held scanners, typewriters) preferred.

  • Experience with various computerized and mechanical devices necessary for product preparation and dispensing (e.g., scales, micromix, strip packer, web site resources, general compounding, laminar air flow hoods, biological safety cabinets, etc.).
