Position Summary:
 

Illumina is seeking a beginning-career Interaction Designer to join our growing team of designers and researchers as we build best-in-class customer experiences across all Illumina hardware and software platforms and touchpoints. You must be familiar with user centered design principles and have a portfolio of projects or internship project that follow user centered design principles. You must love sweating the details and be organized. 

All About You
 
Responsibilities:


  • Partner closely with researchers, visual designers, product managers, product owners, and development teams to define scope of projects and features, remaining flexible as barriers are encountered while creating best-in-class digital experiences.

  • Create wireframes, flow maps, information architecture diagrams, low to mid-fidelity screens and prototypes to document user experiences.

  • Participate in customer research, partnering closely with researchers to identify key questions about user’s tasks, needs, and pain points. Observe research sessions and iterate on designs based on feedback.

  • Be able to articulate a strong rationale for your work by drawing on your knowledge of design principles as well as human behavior.

  • Seek and analyze user insights based on user research, analytics, and marketing feedback.

  • Be able to balance user needs and business objectives as you develop and design.

Requirements:


  • 2+ years as an interaction designer or other relevant experience

  • MS degree in Design, Human Factors, or related field

  • Knowledge of user centered design process, methodology, and GUI best practices.

  • Ability to know when to leverage existing design patterns and when an innovative approach to a design problem is called for.

  • Ability to design interfaces across a range of devices (e.g. desktop computers, mobile devices, consumer or scientific devices) using common industry tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe Suite, etc.

  • Ability to create output for all stages of the user experience, including information architecture diagrams, task flows, wireframes, and mid-fidelity designs. Ability to do light prototyping a plus.

  • Ability to embrace collaboration with all team members, including product, project, and development team members as well as UX colleagues.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, be organized, be proactive, and embrace change in a fast-paced environment.
