As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school centered and student centered activities for students, parents, faculty and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and long-standing student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area. The EPC provides support to faculty, staff and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, universities and community colleges to promote an educational pipeline for success for all students.

The EAOP and GEAR UP projects, both under the umbrella of the EPC, serve under-represented, low-income students with the goal of increasing the participation rate of program/cohort participants in post-secondary education. EAOP serves the Pajaro Valley region and Monterey County. GEAR UP operates in the Pajaro Valley region, South Monterey County and Monterey County.

Position Summary

Responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of a component of an academic preparation program. Establishes new organizational relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions. Assignments require advanced knowledge of highly complex or technical information. May have supervisory responsibility.

Under the general supervision of the EAOP & GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Lead College Facilitator will coordinate and implement EAOP/GEAR UP activities and services at assigned schools. They are the primary contact and team leader of EAOP/GEAR UP direct services at times supervising one to three college facilitators and several undergraduate interns. The incumbent will plan and lead efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to colleges and universities and provide educational services designed to motivate middle and high school students to prepare academically for higher education. The incumbent will be responsible for providing outreach services at one or more partner middle(s) and/or high school(s) in the designated area and/or surrounding service area.

Salary Information: $45,800 - $54,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties

20% - Provides leadership for the design and implementation of college preparation services and culture to a district, including training K-14 school district faculty and staff.

20% - Provides complex academic advising.

10% - Provides leadership in strategic and program planning efforts. Maintains up to date knowledge of K-12 and higher education polices and issues, assesses their impact on program strategies, and disseminates information to school site and district personnel.

10% - Organizes meetings with school site personnel and service providers regarding major whole school, district and regional efforts.

10% - Manages program component and activity budgets.

10% - Assists in recruitment and hiring of professional, student, and/or temporary staff.

5% - Plans and organizes a set of district-wide or regional college-going events and activities.

5% - Develops customized student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility.

5% - Develops partnerships/networks with K-12, higher education institutions, and community organizations.

5% - Assists with fundraising and proposal writing.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

* Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.

* Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

* Advanced knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid and scholarship requirements, and matriculation processes.

* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.

* Ability to develop outreach programs, and design effective materials.

* Advanced knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.

* High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.

* Advanced knowledge of issues facing low-income, first generation youth.

* Ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.

* Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple critical projects with deadlines. Strong project management skills.

* Strong interpersonal skills. Leadership and supervisory skills.

* Bilingual written and verbal (English/Spanish).

* Experience designing, implementing and monitoring academic/enrichment programs or events.
