Job Description:

The Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of highly skilled maintenance work that requires an in-depth knowledge of various trades, including mechanical, electrical and pneumatics. Basic knowledge of how to operate HVAC systems and troubleshoot and program programmable logic controls (PLCs) is also required. The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to troubleshoot, repair, install, adjust and maintain processing and packaging machinery, devices, moving parts and equipment that operate on electrical, heating, plumbing, refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc., principles.
The General Mills-Milwaukee plant operates 24 hours per day, usually running weekdays and weekends. This Maintenance Mechanic role is for 2nd shift, but individuals must be flexible to changing work schedules that may include working on another shift and during nights and weekends.

The starting wage for a Maintenance Mechanic is $30.27-$33.35/hour. Additionally we offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance and paid vacation. The benefits go into effect on the first day of employment.

The General Mills Milwaukee Plant manufactures and distributes snacks for the North American Retail and C&F Business segments. The site's product portfolio includes Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Bugles, and Gardetto's. Located 6 miles south of downtown Milwaukee, the site was built in 1968 and owned by the Gardetto family until it was acquired by General Mills in 1999. Today, the plant employs over 200 employees and is working on our Zero Loss Culture journey.

Main Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Inspect equipment, structures, parts or materials to identify breakage, excessive wear, or the cause of errors, problems or defects. Also inspect to determine adjustments or repairs needed.
- Observe and test in order to diagnose malfunctions in machines. Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators to determine required solution
- Install, maintain, repair and replace industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment:
- Read and understand blueprints, schematics, specifications, technical drawings, work orders, processing charts and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
- Install equipment or attachments on machinery or related structures, industrial machinery or related heavy equipment
- Install or replace meters, regulators, or related measuring or control devices
- Set, adjust or align mechanical controls, components, machine set-ups, and clearances of mechanical components or parts
- Position, align, or level machines, equipment, or structures
- Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
- Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
- Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components
- Fabricate new parts by cutting, welding or soldering metal to repair broken metal parts, bending tubing or conduit, etc.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Maintain welding machines or equipment
- Install, maintain and repair electronic systems and equipment
- Calibrate or adjust electronic equipment or instruments to specification.
- Install or replace electronic equipment, components, systems, power, communication, control, or security equipment or systems.
- Enter codes and instructions to program and set-up computer-controlled machinery. Basic repair of PLC's. Adjust measuring or control devices.
- Install, maintain and repair electrical systems, including conduits, tubing, fixtures or components. Solder connections or components. Repair or replace wiring, circuits, fixtures, or equipment
- Repair and maintain building utilities: Assemble and install pipe sections, fittings, or plumbing fixtures. Cut, bend, or thread pipe for gas, air, hydraulic, or water lines. Install water or sewer treatment plant equipment perform hydraulic plumbing. Basic control of HVAC equipment
- Identify and suggest changes to the PM Work Order Program
- Assist vendors and Engineering in the implementation of new equipment and/or restructuring or retooling projects
- Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
- Partner with operators to identify problems. Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators.
- Order supplies, materials, or equipment. Record parts and materials used, and order or requisition new parts and materials as necessary. Record repairs and maintenance performed.
- Perform safety inspections
- Advise changes needed in maintenance schedule to Team Leader

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5 years experience in industrial maintenance or equivalent education in a related field
- Proficiency in basic computer skills
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
- Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends
- Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment
- Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of PLCs, HVAC systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical degree in industrial maintenance or related field
- Continuing education in maintenance/technical skills
- Computer Maintenance Management System experience
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Machinest and/or metal fabrication experience .
