Job Description:

• JOB SUMMARY
  
  • Reports to Laboratory Manager/Director. Accessions requisitions and processes specimens for testing. Ensures that lab requisitions are appropriately completed and authorized and obtains pertinent patient information for laboratory records and/or billing purposes. Performs general office/clerical responsibilities. Performs phlebotomy and Point-of-Care testing as assigned. Performs Ensures all work activities are performed according to established policies and procedures. Coordinates activities of the laboratory assistants.

  • Education and Experience
    
    • The above level of knowledge, skills and ability are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience. Certification (ASCP or equivalent) in phlebotomy is strongly preferred. Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Qualifies as testing personnel for moderately complex testing as defined under CFR 493.125.

    • Demonstrate solid knowledge of medical laboratory procedures and testing systems.
      
      
    
    
    • Requires working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations and accrediting agencies.
      
      
    
    
    • Requires technical knowledge of LIS and its applications.
      
      
    
    
    • Demonstrates interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills necessary to coordinate associates in daily operations and to interact effectively with physicians, patients, visitors and other contacts.

  • Physical Demands
    
    • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to stand for long periods of time, walk short distances, and lift up to 35 pounds) to perform the essential functions of the position. Also requires visual acuity, normal color perception, and full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
