Assist patients with performing activities of daily living when delegated by RN. Keeps the nurse up-to-date on any changes in patient information. Education and Experience
Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Indiana (105-hour state-approved training course). If certified as out of state CNA, employee will have 120 days to obtain Indiana certification or employment will be terminated. Must successfully complete a Nurses Aide Certification Course. The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) within 3 months of hire and maintain current certification. One year nursing home experience (prefer skilled care), home health care, or private duty experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Familiarity with basic hospital equipment and policies and procedures.
Able to perform blood pressure and other vital signs correctly.
Knowledge of and correct utilization of good body mechanics.
Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
Strong team player.
Communicates clearly and promptly with supervising nurse in order to give prompt care and experience for patients and families.
Basic computer knowledge and skills.
Moderate stress involved when census and/or acuity is high or staff is low.
Potential hazards due to possible direct exposure to residents with infectious diseases, exposure to sometimes hostile and combative residents.
Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking or standing.
Work may require an awkward position to be assumed for short periods of time in lifting or handling heavy patients.
