JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the Manager, Business Intelligence. The Business Analyst provides input on strategy to maximize revenue generating opportunities by analyzing internal and external data from a variety of sources and creating operational and financial analysis and reports that present data in a meaningful and actionable way. The Business Analyst will define, create, distribute, and support monthly and quarterly financial performance and operational reports and analysis. As a member of the Business Intelligence team, the Business Analyst will have opportunities to provide analysis expertise on cross functional projects throughout the organization as well as primarily support Beacon Managed Care including Value Based Reimbursement Contracts, Accountable Care Organizations (ACO), and Medicare Shared Savings Programs (MSSP) by delivering standardized reporting and ad-hoc requests for data and analysis. The Business Analyst assists in the analysis of proposed contracts, bundled payment programs, and other programs to evaluate financial viability.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Analytics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years' professional experience creating financial analysis, contract performance analysis, reports and dashboards, and data driven recommendations, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Knowledge & Skills


  • Requires the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail, urgency, and accuracy.

  • Requires a basic understanding of contractual language, accounting, and finance including NPV and ROI.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity while developing analysis and answering questions that have never been asked before.

  • Uses logical, analytical, and data driven approaches to answer questions lead projects.

  • Requires the ability to prioritize multiple projects, track progress, and report status to management.

  • Requires strong skills in organization and time management.

  • Demonstrates developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel to deliver accurate, concise, and actionable analysis.

  • Proficient using PowerPoint to develop presentations and is comfortable and confident delivering presentations to all levels of the organization.

  • Requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Requires the ability to perform in a fast paced environment.

  • Requires the ability to build effective cross functional relationships.

  • Requires the ability to work with all levels and departments of the health system.

  • Requires a basic knowledge and understanding of value-based reimbursement contracts, ACO, PHO, CMS, insurance industry and healthcare delivery systems.

  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism while protecting sensitive data.

Preferred Skills


  • 5-7 years' professional experience creating financial analysis, contract performance analysis, reports and dashboards, and data driven recommendations, preferably in a healthcare setting.

  • Familiarity and exposure to the healthcare industry, including:

    • Managed Care Coordination, Value Based Care, Accountable Care Organization, Medicare Shared Savings Programs, Bundle Payment Programs, and Finance.

    • CMS quality metrics and HEDIS measures.

    • Payor contract analysis and value based contract analysis.

    • Procedure and Diagnosis Coding: CPT, ICD-10, APR-DRG and MS-DRG



  • Experience with financial and medical record systems commonly found in a healthcare setting, such as:

    • Cerner, Meditech, McKesson STAR, Allscripts/ProPM, or Epic.

    • Experience with Insurance payor specific websites and datasets.

    • Previous experience supporting the healthcare revenue cycle.

    • Advanced MS Excel skillets including VBA and NPV modeling.

    • Previous experience supporting and developing analysis and reports.



Working Conditions


  • Works in an office environment.

  • May be required to vary hours and days, and work on holidays, weekends, etc., depending upon the needs of the department.

1. Provides data and analysis that contributes to the financial and clinical success of Beacon organizations by:


  • Designs and creates accurate and meaningful analysis and reports that communicate operational and clinical performance, strategic planning/market analysis, financial analysis, and a variety of other business needs to ensure revenue maximization and Beacon strategic goal achievement.

  • Monitor value-based reimbursement contract performance, developing reports, summarizing and distributing information as needed to ensure contract performance.

  • Deliver clear and concise reports and dashboards on a stated and expected schedule.

2. Provides meaningful contribution to build an informed data driven culture at Beacon.


  • Assist users in interpreting and understanding the financial reports and analysis.

  • Documents deliverables created, including instructions on how it was created, user requirements, and assumptions used in the analysis to ensure it can be recreated in the future.

  • Meeting deadlines by prioritizing reoccurring reporting requirements and ad-hoc requests.

  • Actively participates in cross functional project meetings and presents new ideas.

3. Consistently deliver actionable and accurate reporting and analysis.


  • Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets and connecting those trends to actionable insights and business needs.

  • Delivers consistent formatting and high data quality with standard reoccurring deliverables distributed on a monthly, quarterly, or annual cadence.

4. Assists in the analysis of proposed contracts or programs to evaluate financial viability.


  • Creates analysis that provides recommendations and financial outcome scenarios based on data.

  • Interpreting reports or contractual language to analyze the impact on Beacon's overall operations and financials.
