Energy Performance Application Specialist

SUMMARY: This broad role is intended to provide technical analysis of energy and automation systems in the Energy Bureau and to develop analysis tools in support of the Efficiency Business. The Energy Performance Application Specialist will be responsible for delivering contractual monitoring reports, creating and executing measurement and verification plans, performing custom data analysis for a variety of time-series sets of data, including interval utility data, building automation system trend data, and other logged data series, as well as supporting the development and troubleshooting of excel/VBA based efficiency tools .

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform custom data analysis for a variety of time-series sets of data, including interval utility data, building automation system trend data, and other logged data series.


  • Create reports summarizing performance targeted to internal project teams and customers.


  • Perform remote analysis of building automation system operation.


  • Develop and execute measurement and verification (M&V) strategies.


  • Use building energy models to estimate impact of operational changes.


  • Evaluate project risk and communicate that risk to project team and leaders.


  • Prioritize opportunities for improvement within a project and across a portfolio.


  • Evaluate project performance relative to defined goals.


  • Provide feedback to internal energy and automation teams to facilitate first time quality


  • Create and support Microsoft Excel based applications and tools


  • Support the specification of the technical requirements for new software and analysis tools.


  • Troubleshoot and manage feature requests for existing tools within Energy and Sustainability Services.

Education:


  • Four-year engineering, computer science, math, or related degree


  • Two-year technical degree with equivalent related work experience




Experience:
  • Three years of relevant work experience

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required


  • Advanced ability to use Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


  • Microsoft VBA proficiency including writing and understanding applications, importing/exporting data in a variety of formats, and advanced macro generation.


  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, dynamic formulas, PowerQuery, and PowerPivot/PowerBI.


  • Strong organizational skills and ability to gather, manipulate, summarize, and effectively present large data sets.


  • Proficient at debugging spreadsheet and macro errors. Assist with common tool installations.


  • Strong attention to detail.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including, but not limited to, the ability to influence and persuade internal and external Customers, listen effectively, and solicit input from others.


  • Excellent organizational skills including, but not limited to, the ability to handle multiple demands and assignments, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently, and the ability to manage resource procurement and utilization.


  • Quick learner to understand EPC process, multi-disciplinary teams, and project and tool workflow and interaction.


Preferred, but not required


  • Experience with SQL, R, Python, HaDoop or other advanced tools are a plus.


  • Generalist knowledge specialist in HVAC engineering analysis, building level and ECM level energy modeling, utility analysis and financial cost and savings.


  • Advanced understanding of energy savings calculation methods, bin analysis, and utility rate analysis.


  • Advanced understanding of building systems, building management systems, and energy use.


  • Understanding of project costs, budgets, financial terms, etc.

The majority of the work is sedentary. However, when performing job site visits the employee will encounter: moving over rough or uneven surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy to light items. Transporting of items such as laptop computers, tools, ladders and other heavy equipment; driving an automobile, etc.

While performing the primary functions of the job, the employee is regularly exposed a general office environment. During periods of project site visits, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions as well as mechanical equipment rooms which could consist of confined spaces and loud noises. Employee may work in different environments while on various job sites. This job will require approximately 0 - 15% travel to client project and internal meeting sites. Travel will occur through the use of an automobile or by airplane to destinations.
