Business Area

The Public Finance group is responsible for creating solutions for the complex financing needs of the firm's public sector clients. Clients include state and local governments, nonprofit healthcare organizations, higher education and cultural institutions and other entities that issue tax-exempt debt. Client teams are based regionally and by industry sectors (Infrastructure, Healthcare, Higher Education, Housing, Energy and Environmental, etc.). Public Finance provides exposure to all aspects of the capital markets by working closely with the sales, trading, underwriting and derivatives desks for prospective and live transactions.

Roles and Responsibilities

Analysts in Public Finance will:

• Work closely with senior professionals to support their day-to-day activities on assignments that may include presentations, RFPs and memos
• Utilize department-wide deal-tracking software (i.e., Bridge) for live deals
• Be exposed to the various sectors of Public Finance and the integral roles that each area plays in the origination process
• Utilize the basics of bond math and develop Excel skills for day-to-day assignments
• Use third-party software and websites (i.e., TM3, SDC) to support presentation process
• Utilize Pitchpro and Docpro and work with junior bankers to prepare both pitchbook and RFP responses
• Interact with both DCM and syndicate desk as part of a transaction pricing

Qualifications

We look for candidates with excellent quantitative, analytical and communication skills. You should be adaptable, able to manage projects independently and ready to assume a high level of responsibility as a member of a team. You should also be able to work well under pressure in a demanding environment, producing accurate, detailed materials while meeting tight deadlines. A well-rounded academic background with coursework in finance or economics is recommended, although successful Analysts come from all different backgrounds. Candidates should be highly proficient in Excel and Word. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate academic strength (minimum GPA of 3.2), strong teamwork, communication skills, and a high energy level.
