Job Description:


Primary Purpose: Directs all aspects of the Department of Public Safety to provide and maintain a safe and secure environment for all patients, personnel, visitors and property. To direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Public Safety Department and its staff, including public safety/police officers. Maintain safety and health standards for compliance with all OSHA, EPA, JCAHO, and other regulatory agencies. Assist with developing, implementing, and directing an ongoing safety and health program for all UC Health locations.

Knowledge and Skills

Education: Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Security Administration, Homeland Security, or Business Administration or equivalent experience required. Post-graduate degree in Business Management, Health Administration, Healthcare Leadership, Management, Accounting, or Homeland Security preferred. In-depth supervision and investigative experience in the areas of law enforcement/corporate/hospital security, or a minimum of ten (10) years security/police supervision experience at the rank of Lieutenant or above is preferred.

License and Certification: If the candidate will be commissioned as a police officer in the State of Ohio, he/she must possess the Ohio Peace Office Training Academy (OPOTA) certification as a Police Officer with the minimum hours of training required by OPOTA, and not have a break in service as a commissioned police officer for more than one (1) year. Not required for the position. At least one of the following certifications must be obtained within one year of appointment to this position: Certified Protection Professional (CPP); Certified Health Protection Administrator (CHPA); Professional Certified Investigator (PCI); or Certified Homeland Security Professional (CHSP).

Required Skills and Knowledge: Proven and demonstrated ability to manage resources and personnel. Knowledge of laws, regulations and codes dealing with JCAHO, OSHA, state criminal and administrative codes, as well as environmental safety matters. Prior corporate budget experience preferred. Broad experience in the application of loss prevention practices. Must be able to develop and maintain effective relationships with members of administration and other management personnel throughout and outside of the organization.
