The Role of the DCM (Data Centre Management) Engineer is to provide IT Design & Support for all businesses internally for Data Centres & Offices globally. This involves reacting to MACS (Moves, Adds,& Changes) New Infrastructure Builds, Voice, WINTEL, UNIX, SAN & Market Data Equipment to be installed within the SER or CER Rooms, In addition the DCM engineer is required to monitor Rack NET & Castle Rock from 07.00am - 19.00pm. Most importantly maintain & updating of ITRACS Data Centre Management Software, this system tracks all Data Centre assets, furthermore is our global designing platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Cabling support for all new patching and connectivity requests
Understand 10Gb,25Gb,100Gb Network backbone
Installation of new hardware in cabinets within the Data Centre
Allocation of correct cabinet space within the Data Centre based on Network PODS
Calculate power loadings to ensure the correct rack space has been allocated
Configure consoles on terminal servers and test application
Understanding HFT (High Frequency Trading) over optical fibre
Understanding of Network / Optical fibre TAPS
Cabling infrastructure faults / actioned via our vFire ticket requests
Cabling support for all Office moves, add change
Installation of customer x-connects
Providing Technical Support for Trading / Non-Trading environment
Planning and implementation of Data Centre server moves
Understanding of Data Centre Standards for cooling practices.
Installation of cabling from the Telco cabinets to the relevant hardware cabinets
High level due diligence on potential new office / BCM sites
Attendance of Project team meetings / preparation of detailed minutes
Attendance of management meetings , providing technical support and documentation
Overseeing of all new cabling infrastructure installations within the Data Centre and new offices
Organisation for the delivery of materials to site / documentation
Arranging security clearance / access for site visits, for visitors and third party vendors
Liaising with Data Centre / Cabling infrastructure third party Vendors
Monitoring of SNMP Management Console of all Data Centres Globally
Administration of the iTRACS Data Base, which enables us to accurately monitor all hardware and connectivity within the Data Centres and offices
Build room management / storage allocation
Data Centre Management - & SOX controls
Controls must exist and be documented for the following key areas;
1, Physical security principals & policy
2, Access Management controls,
a. Requesting and granting access
b. Revoking access
c. Reviewing access
1 st line response for incidents pertaining to all Data Centre alerts, i.e. chiller / local power issues. We would monitor and advise Infrastructure teams as to the extent of the problem, DC Mgmt. engineers should all be contactable 24x7
Skills & Experience Required:
Terminating of both copper & fibre patch panels
Planning & Organisation Skills
Understanding of basic Microsoft Suite applications
Problem Solving Skilla
Communication Skills (Face to face, email & telephone)
