Facilities Management - Building Maintenance Services provides interior and exterior maintenance and repair of campus buildings.

Job Summary

Under general direction of the Structural Superintendent, provide journey-level locksmith services for the maintenance, repair, alteration, installation of door assemblies and all associated components on university owned property. Provide on time on budget high quality customer service.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be fit for a respirator and/or protective clothing and wear both for protection from hazardous materials.

Climb ladders, work on top of machinery and equipment, crawl, stoop, bend and work in tight, confined spaces.

Lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs. using safe lifting techniques.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws, Regulations and University Policy.

Subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services, at no charge to the applicant.

May, at times, work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards include but are not limited to: lead and asbestos, PCB's, radioactive materials, industrial and laboratory chemicals, fuels, solvents, infectious materials, wastes, biological hazards and other materials labeled hazardous.

Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.

May be required to work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekends, or alternative schedules.

Vacation usage may be restricted during peak workload periods as required to meet the needs of the campus.

This position supports critical campus functions operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. To assure adequate support of these functions employee may be required to participate in an on-call program to facilitate timely return of staff to the campus as required to meet critical needs. This on-call program may include requirements for the employee to inform the University how they can be reached during non-working hours, to carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the campus and employee during non-work hours, or to accept rotating on-call responsibility which could periodically restrict the off campus movements of the employee. If the employee's non-working hour movements are restricted by the University, employees will be compensated for their 'On-Call' time according to the established on-call rates. If actually called into work, the employee will be compensated according to the established campus policies. Employees may also be required to return to work after an assigned shift due to business necessity or emergencies. Compensation for 'Call-Back' will be in accordance with campus policies.

Employee is personally responsible for following safety guidelines/procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in the locksmith trade.

Journey level experience fabricating, maintaining, servicing, repairing, replacing, and installing and/or altering key cylinders, doors, door hardware and complete door assemblies.

Knowledge of current building codes pertaining to fire, life safety and accessibility.

Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skill to interact effectively with all levels of management, clients, contractors, craft workers, and counterparts, with diplomacy, tact, and professionalism.

Customer service skills to provide courteous service in person, on the telephone and in email, and to convey a professional and business-like image.

Computer skills to manage work assignments, schedules, record keeping, and correspondence. Experience with Microsoft, Outlook, Word and Excel

Knowledge of electronic access components and experience to troubleshoot existing and install new.

Skill to prepare clearly written and understandable reports and instructions.

Preferred:

Experience with Asset Management System programs such as Tririga.

Experience inspecting and performing preventive maintenance on entire door assemblies.

Knowledge of University, Campus and Department policies, procedures and standards

Analytical skills to understand and interpret architectural blueprints, technical data, door schedules and hardware specifications.

Organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks, meeting established unit goals and objectives, time lines, and budget constraints
