ATC's focus on innovation has given us a leading position in the development of proprietary next-generation specialty alloys and manufacturing processes.
Primary Purpose of the job:
Initiating and executing aluminum product development and/or process improvement projects to deliver growth opportunities for Arconic.
• Leading lab-scale studies and plant-scale trials to succesful completion by collaborating effectively with various teams across ATC and in Business units.
• Develop metallurgical expertise in 2xxx, 3xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx & 7xxx alloys for aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, industrial and brazing markets

Major Activities and Key Challenges:
Identifying and developing creative solutions to alloy and processing challenges
• Initiating and leading plant trials that are focused on developing new technical options for alloy processing, microstructure and property improvements in aluminum alloys
• Relating composition, processes and microstructures to physical and mechanical properties.
• Supporting the development of Intellectual Property protection for new alloy products and emerging technologies
• Interacting and collaborating with external customers.
• Identifing key alloy development areas and assess technical gaps that need to be addressed
• Ensuring completion and documentation of projects through formal reports, invention records and patent applications.
• Proactively managing project priorities and balance resources
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing locations to ensure successful technology transfer from lab to plant-scale
• Identifying new and emerging technologies external to Arconic and initiate actions to capture these technologiesBasic Qualifications:
• PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science.
• 3 years experience in metallurgy and materials science (including fracture mechanicis) of aluminum-based materials through both fundamental and applied research

Preferred Qualifications:
• Development of new aluminum alloy products and processes through commercialization
• Experience in microstructure/process/property relationships of metallic materials
• Experience in mechanical property characterization of metallic materials
• Strong technical leadership and collaboration skills
• Technical writing and presentation skills as evidenced by technical reports and presentations.
• Proven record in R&D project management skills
