A Brief Summary of This Position:

This individual contributor position serves as a vital team member of the Systems Engineering group. The incumbent must be able to handle problems and requests in a timely fashion while maintaining a high level of exceptional customer service and professionalism at all times. Less than 5% travel is required for this position. This position is responsible for: 1) Managing and maintaining systems across the enterprise, ensuring a high level or monitoring and business continuity; 2) Applying proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments; and 3) Providing IT project coordination. This position also helps develop, recommend, maintain, and measure compliance to Information Technology policies and procedures utilized company wide. The incumbent performs or assists in the installation, upgrade, configuration and administration of Server hardware, Virtualization solutions, and Operating systems. Software and hardware utilized includes: All Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, Linux Systems, Azure, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Enterprise Suite (Exchange), O365, Lenovo and Dell Hardware, HCL BigFix End Point Manager, Microsoft Active Directory Federated Services, Microsoft Data Protection Manager, Microsoft Azure AD connect, Commvault Enterprise Data Management, Veritas NetBackup and Appliances, Solarwinds Orion, Citrix Netscaler ADC, Nutanix AHV, and VMWare ESX.

Essential Functions:

• This position reports into Manager Systems Engineering and has no direct or indirect reports


• This role requires up to 5% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays


• Develop and maintain Information Technology operational processes and tasks


• Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes


• Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues


• Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions


• Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts


• Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for server equipment performance, resource allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT management team


• Perform ongoing hardware and software maintenance operations, including installing or upgrading hardware or software


• Establish functional or system standards to ensure operational requirements, quality requirements, and design constraints are addressed


• Create required reports in response to business user needs


• Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies


• Effectively communicate project expectations throughout the project lifecycle to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion


• Use appropriate tools to review, monitor, and manage schedule project timelines and milestones as required by changing conditions.


• Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies


• Delegate tasks, responsibilities and spans of authority to project personnel


• Schedule and facilitate meetings related to information technology projects


• Coach, mentor, and motivate project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work

Other Important Details about the Role:

This position is a senior technical leadership role providing the highest level of support for corporate server infrastructure operations. The incumbent performs or assists in the installation, upgrade, configuration and administration of Nutanix, VMware, Windows and Linux systems. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting and implementing best-practice standards for the administration and management of servers in enterprise datacenters, leading peers in the implementation of these standards, communicating standards to the broader IT community, providing leadership and consultancy for global systems concerns, planning and implementing high availability, and reporting to management the operational status of the server environment.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Preferred Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS or CIS with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience


• Five years systems administration experience in an enterprise level environment


• Advanced level experience in Virtualization technologies and Microsoft products


• Experience supporting and implementing Disaster Recovery solutions


• Experience with high availability; clustering, server failure, failover, failback, load balancing, replication and redundancy


• Experience in Business Application, Production Control disciplines and Change Management


• Working knowledge of Linux & Windows System administration


• Experience with Nutanix, VMware and Microsoft Hypervisors


• Proficient in troubleshooting both system and application issues


• Working knowledge of Project Management methodologies

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science


• Effective communication skills, both written and oral


• Energetic and self-motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperatively with project and infrastructure teams


• Strong working knowledge of proactive and auto-corrective monitoring practices

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Minimal travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
