The Social Worker is responsible for helping families in situations of crisis, abuse and neglect, in addition to supporting other areas of social-emotional need affecting student academic achievement.


Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.



  • Maintains a caseload of students that qualify for special education and have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

  • Evaluate for the need of potential social work and/or special education services.

  • Provides brief assessments to develop an action plan with students and families

  • Facilitates family intervention meetings with families in crisis or with multi-dimensional needs

  • Serves as point-of-contact for teachers and administration for families in crisis; supports staff training and implementation of support processes

  • Serves as liaison for ESSA subgroups, McKinney-Vento, and migrant students; follows up with families by phone or in-person, coordinates with external agencies (e.g. Child Protective Services, The Department of Juvenile Justice, community service agencies, etc.) as needed

  • Maintains an active role and awareness of local community resources within school boundaries, through research, attending local meetings and/or networking events.

Minimum Required Qualifications 



  • MDE School Social Work certification letter &


    MI State License for Social Work



    • Attach images of your social work certification letter from the MDE and MI license for social work to your K12 profile docs for pre-verification.  Images are required to move forward to an interview.


  • Experience in working with students in special education  (whether in previous positions or as part of an internship/field practice)

  • Master’s Degree in social work or related social service field AND

  • One (1) year of documented social work field experience AND

  • Social work education course work, to include Human Behavior in the Social Environment equivalent OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: Michigan State social work credential in good standing


Other Required Qualifications: 



  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.

  • Ability to travel 20% of the time

  • Ability to clear required background check

 Desired Qualifications:  



  • Three (3) years of field experience

  • Background working in education

  • This is a home-based position but may require one or more days a week in the office as determined by the supervisor
