Position Summary: The purpose of the Raw Material Planner is to purchase, monitor, and maintain materials to meet manufacturing needs.

Major Responsibilities:


  • Order raw materials domestic and international.
  • Monitor stock levels to meet required goals;
  • Communicate changes (new and existing materials);
  • Work with suppliers in correcting raw material quality and delivery problems;
  • Work with suppliers to reduce in-house inventory levels by administering inventory programs to reduce cost; consignment, supplier or internal warehousing, etc.;
  • Procurement of assigned MRO items.
  • Expedite required materials to support ongoing production.
  • Participates in Internal and External audits;
  • Process Spot Buy, Purchase orders, as per the purchase requisition procedure.
  • Maintain files at site for all supplier agreements;
  • Administer and send out supplier ratings quarterly;
  • Support central and corporate purchasing;
  • Support internal departments; Engineering;
  • Participate on cost savings teams, analyzes data for improvements;
  • Support and Back up Commodity Specialist;
  • Enter and update material pricing;
  • Identify and coordinate efforts of vendors critical to support of the product line ensuring the fulfillment of cost and delivery commitments.


  • Advise Sourcing, Accounting, and Material department on cost variations;


  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education / Experience / Skills:


  • High School Diploma Required, Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.


  • Computer knowledge, basic PC software, data systems, Oracle or other ERP systems.


  • Prior Raw Material Planning Experience;


  • Basic understanding of manufacturing process;


  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;


  • Two or more years in a manufacturing environment;


  • Advanced team skills;


  • Understanding of suppliers' capabilities of meeting company delivery dates;


  • General understanding ISO policies;


  • Strong organization skills;


  • Procurement/purchasing experience. Vendor performance experience preferred.


  • Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Travel: 5 - 10% mostly to vendor sites.
