Global Safety Assurance Background

The Global Safety Assurance (GSA) Department sits within the Safety, Quality, Regulatory and Compliance (SQRC) group and is a key function within RB. Its responsibility is to ensure the safety of all innovative and marketed products, driving safety by design and ensuring the application of risk assessment and safety compliance across the business. The Department is developing quickly, with the key goals of:

• Demonstrating a world-leading approach to taking responsibility for consumers' safety.
• Integrating safety throughout the Product Lifecycle, in a way that is both proactive and reactive to real-world events.
• Building a strong internal and external presence, as guardians of consumer safety.

The Category Safety team has been created to drive the strategic agenda of the Department by integrating the technical delivery of safety assessment and real-world data with the business needs of RB. Success in this space depends on a robust understanding of both science and commerce and will ensure RB always has the consumer at the heart of all it does.

Role Purpose

The Surface Care Senior Manager, Category Safety uses their blend of technical and business partnering skills to:

• Function as GSA's Primary Point of Contact (PPOC) for senior stakeholders within the surface care categories, supporting the Lysol and Harpic brands globally.
• Partner with Surface Care Category leadership to ensure alignment of short, medium and long-range strategies.
• Equip GSA with business strategy insights to allow appropriate planning and readiness.
• Provide stakeholders with business-relevant insight into emerging safety trends.

The Surface Care Senior Manager, Category Safety, aligning with the Category Safety Director, ensures a close partnership between GSA and its key stakeholders in the relevant Business Unit. Ensuring mutual visibility and engagement and helping to identify areas for improvement in the relationships and processes that shape GSA's contributions to RB's business.

Responsibilities

The Surface Care Senior Safety Manager uses judgment, experience and communication to work across the business unit to ensure flawless technical and strategic collaboration between GSA and its key stakeholders in R&D, SQRC and Commercial departments, delivering impactful insights to BU leadership teams, and helping GSA Technical Excellence, Risk Management and Operations teams to anticipate and respond to the BU's needs on behalf of the consumer:

- Connect GSA to its key RB stakeholders in the Surface Care BU to:
o Provide technical and strategic safety guidance and thought leadership
o Deliver excellence in external relationships and communications
o Produce consistent, accurate and substantiated safety positions across the relevant RB product portfolio, informed by GSA Technical Excellence and Risk Management teams.
o Bring business unit insights and understanding into GSA to enhance its responsiveness and ability to deliver.
- Function as the Surface Care R&D, Regulatory, Quality and Commercial Leaders' PPOC and Trusted Adviser in GSA.
- Participate in the Surface Care R&D leadership meetings, platform/category strategy meetings and long-range product strategy meetings.
- Support the Category Safety Director in providing partnership and leadership in collaboration with relevant functions on any safety activities, as appropriate.
- Engage internally across GSA to be fully informed about emerging safety findings and ensure their communication into relevant teams as appropriate.
- Partner with GSA Operations team to help optimise business process for its stakeholders.
- Communicate externally to RB on Safety matters as required.

Skills / Experience

- Masters or PhD/Medical degree with relevant non-clinical and/or clinical safety experience and relevant professional certification/registration e.g. IDT, UKRT, GMC
- Extensive product safety leadership experience in relevant FMCG product category(ies), e.g. biocides, detergents, raw materials, cosmetics, drugs, devices.
- Extensive experience of medical or non-clinical safety, including product safety management.
- The ability to influence and gain followership in opinion shaping.
- The ability to critically appraise scientific data across multiple technical areas.
- The ability to translate complex scientific detail into lay language.
- Strong understanding of, and ability to thrive in, complex organisations through excellent networking skills.
- Good understanding of the FMCG industry
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory environments and their related safety requirements e.g. biocides, detergents, commodity chemicals, cosmetics, drugs, devices.
- An appreciation and understanding of the business impact of product safety.
