Job Description
This position is for Virginia Sign & Lighting, a division of The LaneConstruction Corporation. VS&L provides electrical, permanent highway signage, lighting, traffic signals, and information technology services.
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for quantifying & pricing in coordination with the District Managers, Joint Venture Partners and Lane Estimating team.
Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to:
- Quantify project components assigned by the leading estimator using conventional methods and Agtek
- Visit project to understand site conditions/restrictions
- Accurately utilize project plans and specifications to interpret and decipher scopes of work
- Assess scopes of work to assign crews (labor and equipment), productions, schedules, materials and subcontracting opportunities to compile and establish pricing to cover project-related work activities from project commencement to completion
- Work with the estimating team bidding the project to build the estimate, then price assigned items in HCSS HEAVY Bid and quantify various scopes of work by utilizing Agtek
- Work on a preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the plans and specifications utilizing Primavera P6 or Primavera Contractor software
- Work with the team to close the estimate
- Coordinate with sub-contractors & suppliers about resources needed for project
- Assist in creating, organizing and maintaining vendors and subcontractors lists in order to facilitate quotes for projects
- Actively communicate with DOTs, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure projects' minority goals are being regularly met
- Communicate and follow-up with subcontractors and suppliers to solicit quotations for each project
- Enter quotations (pricing) from subcontractors/suppliers into HCSS estimates
- Research pricing for estimates based on historical and regional costs
- Research new bidding opportunities and newly advertised projects within the division's territory
- Carry out job duties while maintaining Lane values
- And other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 4-year BS Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is required
- Have experience bidding Mass transit, Metro & metro station, and/or power substation work.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience as an Estimator or office/field engineer
- Experience in all aspects of heavy/highway work preferred
- HCSS, Agtek and Primavera P6 experience is strongly preferred
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
