Physical Therapist in Neurology for the Stroke Institute at UTHealth in Houston, Texas

Job Description:


Position Summary:

We are looking for a Physical Therapist who will work with stroke patients in our neurology department. You will provide professional, educational, and clinical skills in organizing and directing physical therapy services and administering treatment programs. This will incorporate both traditional clinical settings as well as research projects. The therapist will office out of our UT Professional Building, but will need to be able to get to the Medical School or hospitals in the Medical Center to see patients. Sometimes you may be seeing these patients in their homes if needed. Pediatric experience is preferred, but you must also be comfortable with treating adults.

This is a full-time position that is classified as exempt. It is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including healthcare coverage and participation in the State of Texas Retirement System.


Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Coordinates all physical therapy and related orthopedic care to ensure appropriate patient treatment.
2. Conducts patient consultation, evaluation, and program planning for all patients.
3. Develops home exercise programs to instruct patients in the required exercise for treatment.
4. Reassesses patient status on an ongoing basis to ensure that treatment goals, plans, and program are appropriate.
5. Communicates effectively with patient/family to ensure knowledge of treatment plan and home exercises.
6. Develops educational programs to increase patient/family and community awareness of physical therapy treatment.
7. Assists in continuing education and orientation or new employees to increase awareness of physical therapy treatments.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Certified by American Physical Therapy Association and Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.


Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy and four years of experience; OR
Master's degree in Physical Therapy and two years of experience; OR
Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy and no experience


Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years experience in a clinical setting
Providing clinical Physical therapy to patients aged 6 months and older


Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
