Position Overview


The Pole Product Engineer will reside at the manufacturing site and assume the role of technical expert for the Hubbell Lighting portfolio of lighting poles.

 


  • This position reports to the Director of Engineering or Engineering Manager while taking daily direction from on-site Pole Product Manager.

  • Internally, this position interfaces with Product Management, Manufacturing Operations, Pre and Post Sales Support, Technical Support, and Warranty Services.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Work with Product Management to ensure technical specifications are accurately communicated via specification documents

  • Utilize Solid Edge CAD software for solid model design and drawing creation.

  • Make calculations about loads and stresses, and prepare reports, designs and drawings

  • Utilize SAP business software, including bill of material creation and material management.

  • Evaluate customer requests can work with on-site manufacturing to ensure customer requirements are met.

  • Work with sourcing, and the manufacturing staff at production facilities to initiate process and design changes to improve cost and productivity.

  • Recommend/implement drawing changes for the reduction in production time and ease of assembly.


Skills and Experience



  • Be able to calculate loads and stresses (mainly static analysis) to determine acceptability of products; bending moments, axial, and shear loads.  Allowable strength design – Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) on the horizon.

  • Strength of materials knowledge; moment of inertia, section modius, deflections, group moments of inertia, parallel axis theorem

  • Become knowledgeable of wind loading calculations and methods.  Assist with determination of effective projected areas of lighting products.

  • AASHTO, ASCE 7, Florida Building Code knowledge is a plus.

  • Finite Element Analysis modeling experience is desired.

  • Knowledge of materials and fabrication methods involved in a pole manufacturing; knowledge of welding and associated codes a strong plus.

  • SAP and Variant Configurator experience a plus.

  • Proficiency in various CAD packages including AutoCAD, Solid Edge or other solid modeling software.

  • Must be able to work remote from supervisor, and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Provide technical instructions and explanations to internal and external customers


Education


Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
