TEAM SAYRES is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Strategic and Theater Sealift Program Office (PMS 385). This is a great opportunity to join the fantastic team at Sayres and Associates and be on the ground floor of building new ships for the United States Navy / Military Sealift Command.


The position requires:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.

  • Secret Clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to obtain one.

  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems.

  • Strong communication and customer relations skills.

  • Strong MS Office skills.

The ideal candidate for this position would have:



  • At least 2 years of direct experience working in NAVSEA, construction shipyards, and/or operating/maintaining a vessel.

  • Secret Clearance.

Roles and Responsibilities:



  • Provide technical and program management support for PMS 385 engineering and program office efforts throughout the development, design, production, delivery, and testing phases of ship acquisition and construction.

  • Provide support in the coordination and execution of program reviews, developing presentations, analyzing shipbuilder deliverables, and identifying / resolving technical and programmatic issues.

  • Provide technical support for introduction, development and fielding in the areas of Ship Design/Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, and C4I.

  • Additional experience in other naval engineering areas/systems desired: structural, propulsion, auxiliary machinery, naval architecture, deck equipment, aviation support, C4I, and control.

  • Provide technical support reviewing design drawings, revision notices, ship specifications, and other contract data deliverables for vessel acquisition and construction contracts issued by PMS 385.

  • Provide engineering, analysis, and technical studies support.

  • Develop technical reports/briefs/point papers on design engineering issues and corrective actions.

  • Identify risks, and report issues to the NAVSEA 05D Ship Design Managers to include recommendations for risk mitigation and/or resolution.

  • Provide support and assistance in researching, planning, budgeting, maintaining, conducting, and executing production support.

  • Assist in the development of flag presentations, point papers, and talking points as required.

  • Possibility of travel to locations outside the typical office setting for interaction with customers, vendors, shipyards, and stakeholders, including ship visits and onboard site checks.
