Requisition Summary


This key position within the Emissions Regulatory organization of PACCAR performs in-use emissions testing with Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS) to support compliance with new and existing standards resulting from a rapidly growing trend by regulatory agencies to focus on real world in-use emissions rates.  The successful candidate will also support advances in PEMS testing protocols to meet new regulatory requirements, deployment of new PEMS testing systems, contribution toward development of new in-use measurement techniques, general expansion of PACCAR's PEMS testing capability, and assessment of various other in-use emissions related regulatory concerns through test and data analysis.

Division Information


The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities



  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts on-vehicle emissions testing for purposes including regulatory compliance.

  • Keeps records as dictated by EPA and ARB regulatory requirements.

  • Designs fixtures and specifies instrumentation, equipment, vehicles, loading configurations, and data processing techniques for tests unique to on-vehicle emissions testing.

  • Ensures emissions analyzers receive preventive maintenance and calibration according to manufacturer guidance and EPA and CARB regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborates with colleagues for the specification of new testing equipment.

  • Coordinates with test engineers and technicians in other PTC groups as needed to complete tests and analyze results.  Coordinates with PTC and DAF engineers to develop and implement corrective actions.  Coordinates with Truck Divisions to identify customers for test programs.

  • Participates in set up of tests, verifies that test equipment and instrumentation equipment meets specified requirements and performs preliminary data checks.

  • Participates in data collection and analysis, as appropriate.

  • Uses service and engineering tools to access data, clear codes, or update software or calibration for engine and aftertreatment systems.

  • Makes recommendations to improve robustness of hardware, software, calibration and test plans of powertrain systems to enhance emissions compliance margin.

  • Writes reports incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations.

  • Keeps existing work instructions up to date and writes new work instructions as needed.

  • Collaborates with team to initiate projects to investigate and develop new test and analysis methodologies or product improvements.

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of applicable EPA, CARB and international regulations and pending regulations.

  • Maintains knowledge of applicable emissions control and testing science and technology.

  • Presents results of test or investigative projects to divisions and management personnel.

  • Review of requirements documents, certification documents, and other emissions regulatory work on as needed and as available basis.

  • Travel required up to 20% of time.

Qualifications



  • 3-5 years relevant work experience required. Experience with working with exhaust emissions analyzers and exhaust emissions data processing. 

  • Experience with working with regulatory agencies (EPA / CARB) a plus. 

  • Knowledge of diesel engine and aftertreatment regulatory requirements and related emission control fundamentals.

  • Experience with engine and engine-aftertreatment control systems; data acquisition systems; and OBD.  Diesel experience preferred.

  • Excellent technical and communication skills.

  • Willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.

  • Proficient in emissions measurement techniques and relevant EPA regulations.

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desirable.

Education


BS in appropriate technical field required, PE or MS preferred;
