Position will provide leadership, help allocate appropriate resources, and establish capabilities to enable and facilitate successful execution of strategic initiatives, new product development programs and released product management. Position will also manage multiple and/or inter-related projects of a complex nature, defining them in terms of their constituent projects and providing an infrastructure which allows for optimization of business benefit, timing, utilization of resources and cost. Leads and develops the Program Management Office (PMO) to deliver project objectives.

Day in the life:
Implement and manage a Project Management System designed to ensure a consistent, disciplined approach to manage performance and reinforce the behaviors necessary to achieve product and cycle time excellence in the Imaging Portfolio of programs.

  • Responsible for planning, initiating, monitoring, tracking and/or prioritizing engineering team's product development programs or projects and facilitating successful, on-time and within budget execution

  • Responsible for driving Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process for a business segment
    o Implement and drive organizational adoption of a capacity assessment processes regarding funds and resources.

  • Responsible for driving sustained improvement in program execution, enhanced program management, standard tools and overall PMO process.

  • Establish best practices for developing, implementing, and maintaining product development and program/project management processes.

  • Responsible for program & portfolio performance, program risk management, administration, financial management, budgeting, capital planning, forecasting and issue resolution

  • Participate with other senior managers in developing and establishing division, group, company, and corporate-wide policies and ensuring their execution

  • Provide direction and leadership to Program Core Team Leaders of cross-functional program development teams including members with expertise from product development, research, clinical, regulatory affairs, quality, operations, finance, and product marketing
    o Responsible for managing and developing talent within the Program Management Office.
    o Provide coaching and leadership to Program Leaders.

  • Apply Medtronic Compliance guidelines to management decisions and interactions with a wide-variety of advocates.

  • Communication and Influence: Communicates and leads meetings with internal and external customers and vendors, conducts briefings to higher level management team.

  • Influences across functions and businesses while balancing divergent objectives to gain cooperation of other parties on program objectives and execution plans

  • Leadership and Talent Management: Leads, directs and reviews the work of a team of managers, experienced professionals and/or vendors who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.

  • Establishes daily tasks necessary for successful program execution.

  • Not directly responsible for hire or fire decisions and people management.

    Must Have: Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

    Nice to Have


  • Certified as Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI)
    Background in Imaging and Imaging Systems is not required but will be considered a plus Medical device development experience

  • Demonstrated track record of leading multiple successful projects that met business and product objectives.

  • Cross-functional knowledge and/or experience.

  • Ability to build a strong cohesive cross-functional team through motivational and teambuilding skills.

  • Ability to lead within complex organizations requiring strong influence management skills.

  • Good communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Mastery of project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices.

  • Ability to work cooperatively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals.

  • Demonstrates initiative; results oriented.

  • Effective decision making skills - ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across needs of several functional departments. Makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • Must be professional, dedicated, and detail-oriented.

  • Lean six sigma methodology / DFSS / DRM
