Position Summary:


The Instructional Designer will create instructor-led content, online learning modules, user guides, and other supporting materials while following the established instructional design process (ADDIE). The Instructional Designer will use strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video and audio to communicate and educate our employees.





Task requirements for position:


Specific skills include:


  • Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates training initiatives to include systems training, operational updates, and staff development courses. Training modalities include ILT and eLearning.

  • Fundamental project management is necessary and expected to track the full lifecycle of course development.

  • Works with the team to research and document all changes to system, process, procedure and policies.

  • In-services are developed when appropriate.

  • Collaborates with training colleagues and SMEs to ensure training material is current and effective.

  • Demonstrates familiarity with Instructional Design and courseware development principles.

  • Strong PC skills; including: Word, PPT, SnagIt. Prefer experience in some or all of the following: Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate (but will train the right person).

  • Desire to continuously learn new features of development tools and software.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced department with shifting priorities.



Requirements:




  1. Education:

Knowledge of theory and practice of instructional systems development, adult learning, principles of distance education, training and development, training implementation, and learning facilitation generally acquired through Bachelor's Degree in education, communications, organizational development, or related field.



B. Knowledge:

Must have in-depth knowledge of different approaches to adult learning.

Strong written and verbal English grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage & pronunciation.

Knowledge & application of adult learning principles

Ability to develop workflows and business procedures

Strong interpersonal skills in both stakeholder interactions and team interactions and a willingness to interact with subject matter experts on a regular basis.

Experience taking, creating, or administering online synchronous training

Microsoft Word: basic text formatting functions, tables, bullets and numbering, hanging indents, inserting graphics, tracking changes, accepting comments and changes.

Microsoft PowerPoint: basic text formatting, tables, master layouts, text and title placeholders, entering slide notes; ability to use graphic design features to create screen layouts.

Experience developing instructor-led training



C. Skills:

Work requires skill in designing and developing learning, precise oral and written communications, developing and writing training design documents, writing storyboards, conducting training needs analyses, and using all aspects of instructional design (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Work requires excellent teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills to allow incumbent to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, and cooperate with other staff to achieve overall organizational objectives. Must have a relatively high level of analytical ability to evaluate programs for impact and effectiveness, and identify problem areas. Detail oriented.



D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.:

Certifications as required to administer and facilitate selected training programs and assessment instruments.



E. Work Experience:

Work requires three years of progressively related experience. Demonstrated full-cycle of instructional design experience to include: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Must have experience developing training modules in a business setting. Basic project management skills.



F. Machines, Tools, Equipment:

Must operate PC, general office, and AV equipment.

Works with Director to make decisions on all issues related to training. Independently organizes and prioritizes work to meet changing priorities. Makes decisions within the scope of authority and established guidelines.



C. Supervisory Responsibility:

Assigns work and provides guidance and direction to others as appropriate.



Problem Solving:

Work requires incumbent to be capable of accurately diagnosing performance gaps and thinking strategically to resolve underlying problems. Must be able to compile information and design and document training solutions to meet client training needs.



Information Management:

Must be able to draw conclusions from data, track trends and determine solutions. Must be able to understand and interpret instructional methods and produce training manuals, documentation and resource materials. Administer learning assessment and diagnostic tools.



Working Conditions:

Works in normal conditions where there are no physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like. Work frequently produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue due to attention to detail and adherence to deadlines. Work frequently produces a high level of physical fatigue due to standing for multiple hours when facilitating training sessions.
