Job Description:


JOB PURPOSE :
Under supervision of Counsel, performs a variety of generally moderate to complex tasks relating to supporting IP legal issues that must be addressed by or for the Company in the IP Practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Receives requests directly from attorneys in IP group to assesses the attorney's needs for legal assistance and/or information and takes appropriate action to resolve and support the needs for these requests.
2. Works with attorneys on the IP team on variety of issues relevant to the business operations of the Company. Makes independent assessments and evaluations to assist the legal team relating to the variety of issues and determines appropriate action and/or response.
3. Prepares moderate to complex charts, instruments, documents and/or affidavits relating to trademark or patent prosecution, litigation and/or business operations for review by Counsel including researching database and website for specimens of use, dates of first use and auditing of notice requirements.

4. Works with appropriate individuals to ensure proper execution of signatures on documents

5. Maintains patent annuities

6. Develops of portfolio management systems, IP asset tracking processes and document management

7. Conducts audits of system to ensure accuracy and efficient workflows
8. Conducts research, analyses and investigations to aid Counsel in making a determination of appropriate action(s).
9. Interfaces directly with outside counsel, government and quasi-governmental agencies, vendors to assist in providing documents and/or direct support to Counsel.
10. Facilitates review of documents and creation new document requests.

11. Oversees the progression of administrative projects within the IP group, including additions of new software, billing, new vendors, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college/university.

Experience: Prefer 3-5 years of Paralegal experience, including at least 2 years of solid IP experience in a legal office or a corporate legal department.

1. Requires a familiarity with IP terminology and processes.

2. Requires strong legal research and analytical skills.
3. Must have excellent human relations and communication skills, tact, diplomacy and a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in order to interface with outside and opposing counsel, all levels of management.

4. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with both internal and external contacts.
5. Must have ability to work in a timely manner by exercising discretion and utilizing independent judgment to meet business needs and demands.
6. Strong organizational skills and project management skills required.
7. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

8. Familiarity with case/matter management systems or programs preferred.
