Southern Industrial is looking for Insulators for a 4- 6 week project near Columbia, SC. This is a local only position, no travel or per diem. 

Covers boilers, pipes, tanks and refrigeration units with insulating materials such as fiberglass, plastic and magnesia to reduce loss or absorption of heat, prevent moisture condensation and to deaden sound.

Essential Functions / Duties:

• Wire prefabricated fiberglass covering around steam and hot water piping, using hand tools


• Trowel mastic or brush cement on insulation to obtain smooth finish and cover piping with cloth


• Fit thermoblock and magnesia-block insulation around insulating boiler, evaporators and turbines


• Wire insulation on machinery and staples wire netting over insulation


• Trowel cement on wire netting to protect insulating material


• Cut sheets of insulation into sections, using hand saws and miter box


• Fit and cement sections around fittings


• Cover gas piping of refrigeration or air conditioning systems with molded plastic


• Fabricate detachable insulation for valves or similar fitting by measuring connections, preparing patterns, cutting insulating cloth, stuffing cloth with amosite (plastic pipe covering), and sewing cover together on power sewing machine


• Wire detachable covers on valves or fittings using hand tools


• Install fiberglass or spun glass on ventilation systems to deaden sound and prevent vibration


• Select insulating materials and tools based on specifications


• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• 3-5 years of experience as an insulator – insulating pipe, sewing blankets and flashing
