Job Description:

The Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost seeks an organized, collaborative staff member who can help to support the development and launching of a new university-wide “Gateway to Belonging at OU” course focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. This new course will be part of the General Education curriculum and required for all new incoming students to the university including first year and transfer students. The course will help students gain an understanding of diverse perspectives from people of different abilities, identities, cultures, and social backgrounds, building an intercultural awareness that will allow them to interact more effectively with others. Students will learn how individual identities are formed and perceived, including the sources of prejudice and discrimination, with an emphasis on combatting racism, for example, anti-black racism. The course will address how historical and ongoing structures of opportunity, inequality, and power shape national, state, and local communities. Students will develop the skills to practice civil discourse and foster an inclusive campus culture.

The successful candidate will be able to support this mission and work closely with the Faculty Director of this program by helping to coordinate various communication, programmatic, financial, and administrative functions within the department. This individual will often send communication on behalf of the Director and the department, assist with implementation and promotion of department initiatives, and support faculty and students in the department. Thus, exceptional communication skills are required. Attention to detail and initiative are additional important characteristics for this position as this individual is also responsible for managing financial, personnel, and payroll procedures and coordinating classroom assignments.

Responsibilities:


  • Manage financial, personnel, and payroll procedures in the department

  • Work with classroom management and University College to coordinate classroom assignments for undergraduate course

  • Assist with implementation and promotion of department initiatives and trainings

  • Assist with development and support of digital initiatives, electronic media, and print media in     the department

  • Maintain strong collaboration with administrators, faculty, and staff in the department and across campus

Primary Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: 


  • 36 months of experience in student, course, and/or program support work

Skills: 


  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Department Preferences:


  • Master’s Degree

  • Demonstrated skills as a communicator, planner, and collaborator

  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective programmatic support to administrators, faculty, and   students

  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion education and best practices in cultural competency

  • 5+ years of experience
